Begin Again Literacy Ministry BALM is a dedicated non-profit committed to empowering adults to overcome educational challenges EXCELLENCE: We esteem to use the best educational practices.

Our Beliefs
We believe in Philippians 1:6 that “God has begun a good work in you…” and through compassion, love, and empowerment, we can bring this “good work” into fruition. We believe that education breeds confidence and confidence breeds hope. Getting a GED is the beginning initiative towards improving economic situations through pursuing better jobs and considering higher education. Our Values


COMMUNITY: We value a community in which all residents have the literacy skills to succeed. DIVERSITY: We commit ourselves to serving all Eastern NC adults, regardless of their background. FOCUS ON STUDENTS: We value each person we serve, providing individualized instruction aimed at achieving their literacy goals. SUSTAINABILITY: We value change that makes a difference in people’s lives over the long run. OUR COLLEAGUES: We appreciate our community, universities, schools, organizations, and volunteers who contribute their unique talents, time and resources to fulfilling our mission.
