🇺🇸 ATTENTION LANDER COUNTY VETERANS 🇺🇸

Your membership matters.

Even if work, family, or other commitments prevent you from actively participating, maintaining your membership in the American Legion strengthens our collective voice.

When the American Legion speaks in Washington, D.C., lawmakers pay attention to one thing above all else: membership. Every member represents another Veteran whose interests, benefits, and concerns deserve to be heard.

The stronger our membership is here in Lander County, the stronger our influence becomes at the state and national levels. Whether it's advocating for veterans' healthcare, benefits, national security, or support for our military families, numbers matter.

You may not always be able to attend meetings or events—and that's okay. Your membership alone helps ensure that Veterans continue to have a powerful seat at the table.

If your membership has lapsed, we encourage you to renew today. If you're eligible but haven't joined, now is the time.

Strong Post. Strong Community. Strong Voice.

🇺🇸 Happy 251st Birthday to the United States Army! 🇺🇸

From the frozen encampment at Valley Forge to the heights of San Juan Hill, from the forests of Bastogne to the streets of Mosul, the Soldiers of the United States Army have answered our Nation’s call since Day One.

For more than two and a half centuries, generations of American Soldiers have stood watch over liberty, defended our Constitution, and carried the cause of freedom to every corner of the globe. Their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment have shaped the course of history and secured the blessings of freedom for countless millions.

Today, we honor not only the Army itself, but every Soldier who has worn the uniform—past and present.

🪖 250+ years of service.
⭐ 250+ years of sacrifice.
🇺🇸 250+ years of defending freedom.

Happy Birthday to the United States Army and to all who have proudly served within its ranks.

This We'll Defend. 🇺🇸🦅

🇺🇸 Happy Flag Day from American Legion Post 15! 🇺🇸

Today, we pay tribute to the most beautiful banner ever to fly over a free people—the Flag of the United States of America. Through war and peace, triumph and hardship, Old Glory has stood as a symbol of liberty, sacrifice, unity, and hope.

Each star represents our states. Each stripe reminds us of our nation's founding. And every fold carries the legacy of the brave men and women who have defended the freedoms it represents.

✨ May she continue to wave proudly over the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave for generations to come.

Take a moment today to look skyward, reflect on what our flag represents, and remember those who have served beneath her colors.

🇺🇸 God Bless Our Flag.
🇺🇸 God Bless Our Veterans.
🇺🇸 God Bless the United States of America.

✅ One RISE Workshop in the books!

We had a small but mighty turnout this morning at the Lander Veterans Hall for our first RISE (Readiness & Individual Skills Education) workshop, focused on hydration, water collection, filtration, and storage.

The information was plentiful, the discussions were engaging, and the insights shared by participants made for a fantastic learning experience. A big thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the conversation.

Congratulations to Alex Cost, our raffle winner, who took home a ceramic water filtration kit capable of filtering more than 2,000 gallons of water!

We're already looking forward to our next workshop on July 11, when Master Gardener Robin Nelson will lead a session on Backyard Gardening. Whether you're an experienced gardener or just getting started, you'll come away with practical knowledge you can put to use right away.

We hope you'll join us as we continue building skills, preparedness, and self-reliance throughout our community.

Following our Memorial Day Ceremony at the cemetery, community members gathered at Battle Mountain High School for a Flag Retirement Ceremony. There, the American flag was honored as a symbol of courage, strength, sacrifice, and unwavering resolve. Veterans and volunteers from the local Girl Scout troop carefully folded the worn cemetery flag while the meaning behind each of the 13 folds was presented. Upon the completion of TAPS, the flag was reverently committed to the flames with dignity and honor.

Today was a powerful reminder that freedom is not free and that remembrance still matters.

Lest We Forget.

Thank you Battle Mountain Media & Television once again, for capturing these moments.

“We see these soldiers in our mind as old and wise. We see them as something like the Founding Fathers, grave and gray-haired. But most of them were boys when they died, and they gave up two lives — the one they were living and the one they would have lived. When they died, they gave up their chance to be husbands and fathers and grandfathers. They gave up their chance to be revered old men.”
— President Ronald Reagan, 1985 🇺🇸

Today, veterans and community members alike gathered to pay homage to the fallen men and women of this nation, proving that our community — and our nation — still possess gratitude, reverence, and honor for those who gave their lives in service to America.

The day began at the Battle Mountain Cemetery with a Memorial Day ceremony conducted by the local American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts. The words of President Ronald Reagan helped open the ceremony, followed by the posting of the colors at half-staff, the playing of TAPS, and prayer.

Attendees were encouraged to reflect upon the tremendous sacrifices made for our freedoms as the hauntingly beautiful sound of “Amazing Grace” echoed throughout the cemetery by bagpipe.

Thank you Battle Mountain Media & Television for capturing this great community moment!

Volunteers + Veterans = Victory 🇺🇸

On Friday, an incredible team of volunteers from our community — including members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the VFW Auxiliary, the American Legion, and many patriotic citizens — came together to ensure that every veteran laid to rest at the Battle Mountain Cemetery is properly honored this Memorial Day.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and effort to make this meaningful tradition possible.

If you know of a veteran whose grave did not receive a flag, please contact the VFW or American Legion so we can ensure they are properly recognized and never overlooked in the future.

We also invite the community to join us at the Battle Mountain Cemetery on Memorial Day at 11:00 AM as we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

Following the cemetery ceremony, we encourage everyone to attend the Flag Retirement Ceremony at the high school immediately afterward.

May we never forget the cost of freedom.

Memorial Day means more than camping, barbeques, and a long weekend. It is a day set aside to remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation and our freedoms.

Please join the local American Legion and VFW posts this Memorial Day as we gather to honor those who never made it home.

🇺🇸 Memorial Day Ceremony
📍 Battle Mountain Cemetery
🕚 11:00 AM | May 25th

Following the ceremony, a Flag Retirement Ceremony will be conducted at Battle Mountain High School.

We encourage all members of the community to attend as we pause to remember the fallen, honor their sacrifice, and reflect on the cost of liberty.
