The Indiana Fiddlers’ Gathering invites you to join us in celebrating the life and legacy of our dear friend, teacher, craftsman, humorist, music maker, and community builder, Howie Clark.
As a longtime and deeply valued leader in the Indiana Fiddlers’ Gathering, Howie helped shape and sustain our annual festival in Battleground, IN, for over half a century. He also shared his gift of music through the Brookston Old Time Jam, where he was a founding presence, through his teaching of clawhammer banjo to local youth, and through onstage performances with bands like the Hazelnuts and the Hot Club of Colfax. Though his time with us has come to an end, the impact of what he built in concert with his community will continue to resonate through songs played and stories told for years to come.
If you have a story or memory of Howie, please share with us in the comments below. A celebration of Howie’s life will be held in and around the stone shelter at the Tippecanoe Battlefield in Battleground, IN, on May 31st beginning at 2:00pm. Friends are invited to bring food, drink, chairs, musical instruments, and to sing their hearts out to honor and remember Howie in the way he would have appreciated most. In lieu of flowers, the Clark family asks that donations be made to the Indiana Fiddlers' Gathering in Howie’s memory.
