Turning $2,500 into $10,000 for Our Community
When opportunity meets Rotary creativity, amazing things happen! This year, Lewis River Rotary took a $2,500 budget line item and transformed it into a $10,000 impact for our local food bank.
Here’s how: we used our $2,500 as seed money to apply for a Rotary International matching grant, doubling our contribution. Then, by giving during Give More 24, when the food bank had matching funds available, our original dollars doubled again — multiplying our $2,500 into a $10,000 total donation to fight hunger in North County.
Why It Matters
Our local food bank is truly a powerhouse of compassion and efficiency. Ranked #1 out of 100 nonprofits in Clark County during this year’s fundraising drive, they’ve already distributed more than 226,000 pounds of food in 2024, including 4,500 pounds of fresh produce grown in their own community garden.
They currently serve over 960 households per month, with more than 100 new families enrolling each month — the highest numbers ever seen, even compared to pandemic levels. Nearly half of their clients are working adults, with the rest made up of seniors and children, all feeling the strain of rising costs.
Behind those numbers are over 85 volunteers, who not only pack boxes and deliver food but also build friendships, share laughter, and embody the spirit of service.
Looking Ahead
With plans to expand from their 1,600 sq ft facility to a new 10,000+ sq ft community services center, the food bank is working toward a hub that will unite food, medical, and support services under one roof.
Lewis River Rotary is proud to stand beside them — amplifying local generosity through the power of Rotary partnerships. Together, we’re turning small dollars into big change and reminding our neighbors that they’re cared for. 💙
