✨ Spotlight: PA Wranglers ✨
The people behind Camp J’s teen leadership magic.
At Camp J, PAs (Program Aides) are the teenagers who lead most of the activities. They’re not just helpers—they’re planners, leaders, role models, and problem-solvers in real time. And that kind of leadership doesn’t happen by accident.
That’s where our PA Wranglers come in.
PA Wrangling is one of the most complex roles on our core team. It’s part recruitment, part mentoring, part matchmaking, and part emotional support. Wranglers are responsible for finding teens who want to grow as leaders, helping them return year after year, and thoughtfully matching them with unit leaders, co-PAs, and units where they’ll thrive.
They understand that not all PAs start in the same place. Some arrive ready to lead from day one; others are still finding their confidence. Our PA Wranglers work closely with unit leaders to strike the right balance—so newer PAs feel supported, and older PAs get the meaningful leadership experience they’re craving. The goal? By the time a PA becomes a Senior PA, they’re confident, capable, and ready to take the reins.
Wranglers also make sure PAs are prepared before camp, supported during camp, and—this part matters just as much—know that they are seen, valued, and deeply appreciated. Teen leadership is powerful, but it’s also vulnerable, and having adults who truly get that makes all the difference.
Camp J works hard to ensure our PAs don’t just help run camp—they grow into leaders who trust themselves. That growth is intentional. And it’s guided every step of the way by our PA Wranglers.
Next week: meet the incredible humans who do this work. Those incredible humans are pictured, facing one of camp’s many “character-building moments.”💚
