Calhoun County Trailway Alliance A Calhoun County trail for non-motorized use providing many opportunities to experience and enjoy the natural world around us

The Calhoun County Trailway will span 40 miles from the Battle Creek Linear Park to the Marshall Riverwalk to Albion and the Village of Homer. The CCT will also be an integral part of the Great Lake to Lake Trail, which will connect lower Michigan from Port Huron to South Haven. It will incorporate one of our country's nine national scenic trails, the North Country Trail that is nearly 4,600 miles

long passing through seven states. The local component to this larger plan is a $22 million community project, which will attract significant public grants and private charitable contributions. It is a recreational infrastructure project invaluable to improving the quality of life in Calhoun County and connecting our communities.

On Tuesday, Oct. 14, the Calhoun County Trailway Alliance hosted a strategic meeting with community partners at Venue 19 Zero 9 in Marshall. Participants heard from Ryan Bowles, Trail Manager for the North Country Trail's Chief Noonday Chapter; Bill Greer, Chair of the CCTA; and Andrea LaFontaine, Executive Director of Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance. Then, each table had a segment of trail in Calhoun County that they brainstormed methods for improvement and shared with the group. It was a great opportunity to collectively envision connected trail across Calhoun. Thank you to everyone who participated! This opportunity was possible due to a grant from the Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance.

Work is being done to keep the Calhoun County Trail in good condition!

Last month, Parks staff worked on trail erosion maintenance throughout the Calhoun County Trail. They graded the existing trail, added new material where necessary, and reshaped the path to hopefully prevent dangerous erosion. We are taking steps to keep Calhoun County Parks ideal for all users.
