Calhoun County watersheds featured in free 2015 calendar
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — The Kalamazoo River Watershed is featured through local photographs and water tips in the free 2015 wall calendar created by the Battle Creek Area Clean Water Partners and the Calhoun County Solid Waste Fund.
Local photographers supplied the featured photographs.
Calhoun County has two major watersheds: the Kalamazoo River and the St. Joseph River. The purpose of the calendar is to display the many beautiful areas within them and to bring focus to an unseen resource — groundwater — which is the source of our drinking water. The Kalamazoo River Watershed also provides habitat for wildlife and is a source of recreation.
You can follow the simple tips outlined in the calendar to help protect our water from sources of pollution.
“The steps we take now will help protect our water for future generations,” said Tiffany Welsh, the city’s environmental programs coordinator.
Calendars will be available to the public at many locations throughout the county, including city and township halls, starting Friday, Dec. 12.
The Battle Creek Clean Water Partnership is the City of Battle Creek; the City of Springfield; Calhoun County Road Department; the Calhoun County Water Resources commissioner; the townships of Bedford, Emmett, Leroy, Newton, and Pennfield; the Hart-Dole-Inouye Federal Center; Kellogg Community College; and Battle Creek Area Schools. They have the common goal of protecting the waterways in our area.
If you have any questions about the partnership or the contest that produces the photos for the annual calendar, please contact Tiffany Welsh, City of Battle Creek, at (269) 966-0712 or [email protected].
