This afternoon Gio decided he wanted all my attention β€” and for such a bossy alpha dog, that is definitely not common. πŸ˜‚πŸΆ

Usually he is supervising everyone at the sanctuary like the king of the property, but today he just wanted quiet time, cuddles, and affection. 🀍

Honestly, I enjoyed those little unasked moments too. The spontaneous moments of trust and closeness always end up meaning the most. 🐾

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance and gratitude for those who gave their lives in service to this country.

Freedom allows societies to evolve β€” not only in rights and opportunities, but also in compassion.

One of the beautiful ways humanity continues to grow is in recognizing the importance of protecting those who cannot speak for themselves, including animals.

Today we honor sacrifice, reflect on peace, and remain grateful for the ability to continue caring for the vulnerable every day at Fauna Animal Sanctuary. πŸ•ŠοΈπŸΎπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Just before dark tonight, two owls were communicating back and forth across the sanctuary. πŸ¦‰πŸŒ™

One could briefly be seen flying very fast toward a tree before disappearing again into the evening.

Meanwhile the ducks and geese were making their way safely into their enclosures for the night, while the indoor rabbits were already relaxing comfortably inside.

One of those peaceful sanctuary moments that reminds you nature is always alive around us.

Acts of love are not done to earn love back, but to follow your moral compass and nourish the soul.

Sometimes healing arrives quietly… through a pair of eyes looking at you with trust, admiration, and peace. 🐢✨

There is no price for moments like that.

Chloe update πŸΎπŸ’›

Today we went for a little walk on leash around the property. Chloe spent her time smelling the grass, checking on the duck pens, and happily exploring her surroundings. What touched my heart the most is that she calmly returned home with me and never tried pulling toward the other house.

She never detached from us β€” she has always felt part of the sanctuary family. πŸ¦†πŸΆ

At home, she asks constantly for nose and face rubs, wants to go outside all the time, plays with Coco, admires Gio (and vice versa πŸ˜‚), and of course… fully believes the bed belongs to her now.

Seeing her relaxed, engaged, affectionate, and connected to the animals and daily life here means so much to me. Animals show us with actions where they feel safe, loved, and at peace. πŸ’›

We will soon be adding more rabbit enrichment items to our Amazon wish list 🐰🌼

Right now we care for six rescued rabbits:
Micheline, Riggsby, Toby, Bunny Bom Bom, Chloe, and Chloe’s husband ❀️

Rabbits are very intelligent, emotional, and social animals, and enrichment is extremely important for their happiness, comfort, curiosity, and mental stimulation indoors.

Some items we especially hope to receive donations for include:
β€’ Oxbow tunnels
β€’ rabbit bungalows/hideouts
β€’ Oxbow cookies and treats
β€’ natural Kaytee snacks and enrichment items

These little things truly make a difference in the daily lives of rescued rabbits and help create a safe and stimulating environment for them 😊

Thank you for always supporting our sanctuary animals and helping us provide the best care possible 🌼

Fresh dandelion harvest, sunlight views, cozy bedding, and the comfort and safety of being protected inside. Small moments like these make rescue life so beautiful ❀️

Nothing better than watching happy rabbits relax, stretch, snack, and enjoy their little sanctuary world 🌼

Chloe had her vet appointment today 😊

Good news overall: her blood work came back good, her mouth and teeth look healthy, and there were no crystals found in her urine πŸ™

There were still small glucose residues present in the urine, which could indicate a mild lingering infection and not diabetes. Because of that, Chloe will start another round of antibiotics to make sure everything clears properly.

The plan now is:
β€’ restart antibiotics
β€’ wait about two weeks after treatment
β€’ repeat urine testing and culture
β€’ and perform the full body ultrasound already scheduled for next month to make sure everything looks good internally

We are also going to transition Chloe to an air-dried food diet. We are starting to wonder if she may have developed some food sensitivities over time. When Chloe originally came to the sanctuary in 2019 and during the years after, she did not appear to have these types of sensitivities. Later, after she returned to us, I was told she had been eating Iams before. We are not feeding Iams at the sanctuary and are instead working toward a higher quality diet that may be easier on her system.

Thank you everyone for caring about Chloe and following her recovery journey ❀️

Looks like our newest juvenile duckling may actually be a girl β€” yayyy! πŸ¦†πŸ’•

She has already become best friends with the juvenile Rouen we received before her, and the two are constantly together. It has been beautiful watching them bond and grow side by side here at Fauna Animal Sanctuary.

This little girl is FULL of personality already β€” super sassy, curvy, confident, and somehow she has already passed the size of her friend πŸ˜‚. She definitely makes her presence known around here.

We are so happy these two found each other. Rescue friendships are one of the sweetest things to witness. πŸ’›
