Perhaps love is the mysterious place where two fragile lives recognize one another.

We believe we are rescuing them—lifting them from hunger, fear, and abandonment. Yet, quietly, they enter the hidden rooms within us and rescue something there, too.

For one brief moment, the boundaries disappear: human and animal, protector and protected, giver and receiver. There is only one life holding another, reminding us that tenderness may be the purest language of existence—and that no soul is ever too small to transform the universe of another.

While trying to trap the kittens’ mother, we unexpectedly caught this big cat. We do not yet know the gender, although I suspect he may be male. Because he resembles the babies, I cannot help wondering whether he might be their father—but, of course, we do not know.

He is extremely feral, and I have not attempted to touch him. I see so much fear and hardship in his face. Perhaps he was born outside and has spent his entire life in survival mode—without ever knowing the safety, love, care, and tenderness that every living being deserves.

We will contact local cat-rescue organizations to find free or affordable spay/neuter assistance. After that, I will patiently evaluate whether he can learn to trust and become socialized. He may be one of my greatest challenges, but he deserves a chance.

The mother is still outside every day, but she is incredibly clever and refuses to enter the trap. We will continue trying. One life at a time. ❤️🐱🐾

An update on baby number six: I am still not certain whether this little one is a boy or a girl, so the name will be Antonio or Antonia. 😂 This baby is an expert at disappearing and hiding somewhere in the house, leaving me to pray to Saint Anthony—the patron saint of lost things—to help me find him or her again!

Antonio or Antonia appears to be three or four weeks younger than the original five kittens and looks remarkably similar to another feral cat from the property whom I have not seen in several weeks. Perhaps she is the mother. For now, this clever little baby is safe—and apparently very good at hide-and-seek! ❤️🐱🐾

Chloe cuddling one of the orange brothers—Elio or Aurelio. His little face is hidden, so I cannot tell which one it is in this picture! ❤️ He found the safest and coziest place to sleep, wrapped inside Chloe’s gentle embrace. Different species, one beautiful Fauna family. 🐶🐱🐾

Meet baby number six—or perhaps someone else’s baby! I set a humane live trap hoping to catch the mother so I could have her spayed, but instead, this tiny kitten walked into it. She is identical to a cat I have seen around the property, and I believe she may be a little girl.

That could mean four females among these kittens. Imagine how many more kittens there could be by next year if they remain unspayed. Many born outdoors will suffer, and not all will survive. The growing population also places harmful pressure on birds and other native wildlife.

This is why spaying and neutering community cats is so important. It prevents generations of suffering while also protecting the wildlife with whom they share the environment. For now, this precious baby is safe. ❤️🐾

The dogs have completely accepted the kittens—and they secretly love them! ❤️ When they think I’m not watching, María Titina snuggles right up beside Coco. But the moment they realize I can see them, they move apart as if to say, “You’re a cat, I’m a dog—remember?” 😂🐱🐶
