It was a perfect morning to plant our new Eastern Redbud tree!

There is a story with a bit of meaning and symbolism behind intentionally choosing this special tree… A few months ago, we successfully bid on a gift certificate a landscape supply business donated to support a local shelter at their fundraiser.

When the time came to make a selection, we searched the nursery and found a three-trunked tree with heart-shaped leaves that would have early spring, nectar-providing blooms, and emerald green leaves in the summer that turned golden in the fall.

This tree is now one of the anchors in our new wildflower garden and a tribute to our mission partner, S.A.F.E. Place, a domestic violence shelter.

We would also like to sent out a heartfelt “thank you!” to Hamilton Landscape Supply & Nursery for donating the gift certificate and to Tanner and Jake for coming out and taking such care in planting it for us.

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we want to share our love of marigolds.

Did you know that marigolds hold a wide range of symbolic meanings in many cultures. They often represent warmth and joy as well as resilience, grief and remembrance.

We hope seeing them in our gardens brings a deeper appreciation for this beautiful, useful, meaningful flower.

Treasured traditions…

When we think of family gatherings, we know there is always someone who takes the lead to plan and organize to make it a fun, enjoyable time for everyone.
Our friend, Gary is a master at creating a memorable annual event for his extended family. From designing custom t-shirts each year to researching and sharing stories and photos of their family’s heritage, each fest becomes a precious memory.
We are so thankful that they continue to choose our center to be a part of their tradition! 🧡

Look what one of our friends makes!!!

Not long ago, Dirk VanStralen listened to a message by Pastor Lorenzo Small about the potential within an acorn to grow into a mighty oak. Symbolic of the potential God places within each of us, the tiny acorn requires good soil, the right growing conditions and time to reach maturity.

A talented craftsman, Dirk made these earrings and necklace inspired by that message. He makes other beautiful jewelry and wood works and sells them at the Battle Creek Farmers Market on Wednesdays. Visit his booth to see more of his wonderful artwork.

This morning was all we had hoped and prayed for. Gentle breezes and soft sunlight ushered in a worship service that combined the musical talents of Daniel Kring and Dr. Carl Witt; a powerful message by Rev. Lorenzo Small of truly loving God and how that can be genuinely evidenced in our lives, followed by a precious time of everyone gathering for great food and conversation.
Thank you to all who attended and those that helped make this special event possible.
