Do you live in a house full of folks next door to another and another and another?
Or do you live in a community of neighbors who know and care about each other—a caring neighborhood?
How do we begin building caring neighborhoods? With a wave, a smile, striking up conversation, offering to help…getting out of our houses, apartments and condos and connecting.
All it takes is one person who cares enough to connect. That one person can be you!
The only thing you might lose is time in front of the TV. Building a great city starts with building great neighborhoods!
BIG IDEA FOR JUNE: Respecting Our Neighborhoods GOOD DEEDS FOR JUNE:
WEEK 1: 6/4-6/10 Pick up trash in your neighborhood. Littering is a learned behavior. Let’s not teach the next generation how to do it! We can lead by example by cleaning up our streets and keeping them clean..
WEEK 2 : 6/11-6/17 Brighten a neighbor’s day with an unexpected treat. You can put a smile on a neighbor’s face with a gesture of kindness. Put their newspaper at the doorstep. Drop off a batch of fresh cookies. Share a seedling from your yard.
WEEK 3: 6/18-6/24 Offer to help a neighbor with no expectation of return. We know how to do this…we just need to keep on doing it, even when skies are clear. We can help with yard work or share a meal, not just when there’s a need, because we’re neighbors.
WEEK 4: 6/25-7/1 Introduce yourself to someone you have not taken the time to get to know. You’ll never know all you’re missing until you get to know folks around you…where they’ve come from…what they do to make a living and a life. You’ll be amazed how much you have in common.
