Cortana Kiwanis of Baton Rouge Cortana Kiwanis meets every Thursday at 7:30 AM at the Piccadilly at 3332 S. Sherwood Forest Boulevard.

Cortana Kiwanis meets for breakfast every Thursday at 7:30 AM at the Piccadilly at 3332 S. Sherwood Forest Boulevard with a lively meeting and an interesting speaker. Our largest annual event is the Baton Rouge Christmas Parade, which is fully planned and organized by members of our club. We are probably best known for our "World Famous" Jambalaya mix, which we both sell and use to cook for charity events and school groups. We've also cooked it for Kiwanis District and International Conventions, and to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and tornadoes in Oklahoma. Other projects include preparing and delivering trauma dolls to area hospitals and first responders to assist with young patients, planting an Iris garden at the Iris Domestic Violence Center, answering phones at the Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital Radiothon and delivering food baskets to needy families at Thanksgiving and Christmas. We are a Model Club for Kiwanis International's EliMiNaTe Project, which seeks to eliminate Maternal & Neonatal Tetanus throughout the world through education, outreach and mass immunization drives. The current club commitment reflects a financial pledge to save 20,000 lives.

On September 18th, four members attended the Mayfair Builders Club meeting, marking the first gathering of the school year. The group discussed potential service projects and immediately began working on their first initiative. Over the next couple of months, members will be knitting caps for NICU babies.

CORTANA KIWANIS COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT

Tammy McDavid reports that Megan from the Tailored Tiger Professional Clothing Closet at LSU picked up the first load of donations from the Club. The clothes, shoes, and formal wear filled the backseat and bed of the pickup. They were thrilled with the donations. We are still collecting through early August.

Cortana “Road Trip” to the Huey P. Long Field House on the LSU Campus — Thursday, May 21, 2026

Emily McDonald, CHSE Director of Alumni Engagement & Event Services gave a tour of the refurbished Huey P. Long Field House to Sean McDonald, Troy Pater, Marc Pater, Tammy & Keith McDavid. The building was completed in 1932 as one of the first buildings on LSU's campus, serving as the original student union.

BROADMOOR ELEMENTARY END OF YEAR BUG PARTY – MONDAY, MAY 11, 2026

Bugs (Bring up Grades) is a program designed to provide recognition to primary/elementary students who raise their grades to an acceptable range and maintain or continue to raise them from one grading period to the next. This year we were happy to place seventy-five students in grades 3 through 5 at Broadmoor Elementary on the BUG Honor Roll. We and the students were supported during the program by Principal Kalan Jones. Pam Morgan called out the names and presented a BUG certificate to each student who brought up grades (thanks to Karen Agnew who printed the certificates for us). The students enjoyed cookies and drinks, and Bob Blanchard manned his photo booth with props. Six lucky students’ names were drawn to win bicycles and helmets! We are so proud of our Lil’ Bucs! Assisting Pam were Brenda Robbins Tommy Mackey, Wanda Magee, Rene’ Roberts, Chuck Morgan, Heather Folks-Givens, Bob Blanchard, and John Nackley (not pictured).

KENTUCKY DERBY PARTY, SATURDAY, MAY 2, 2026

In addition to serving children and strengthening our communities, we also make time to have fun together. The Kidders recently hosted a Kentucky Derby party complete with a best hat contest.
