Agape Center of Hope is expanding ❤️
Coming soon, the opening of our 1st Men's Emergency Transitioning Home. Over the past several years, we’ve walked through many doors, asked questions, listened to stories, and searched for pathways for people who simply needed a place to take their next step.
We discovered something. There isn't always a simple path for someone who is ready to move forward but doesn't fit neatly into the existing systems. Maybe they aren't struggling with addiction. Maybe they don't have a diagnosed mental health need. Maybe they're simply experiencing homelessness, have lost stability, or need a safe place to land while they rebuild,
but they're ready. When someone is finally ready to take their next step, there is often a small window of opportunity. If we don't have somewhere to help them move forward in that moment, we can lose trust, momentum, and sometimes hope.
Hope for housing is in short supply according to those we are sitting at the table with.
Recently, we had the opportunity to listen to some of our local Sheriff's deputies and hear firsthand about the needs they encounter while responding to people experiencing homelessness. As we listened to the heart behind what they do, we realized that we can help with the person in front of them. It starts with the 1. There's also something we've learned along this journey. There's not enough exposure to the good that law enforcement does in our communities.
There are officers who encounter people at some of their lowest moments and are simply trying to find somewhere safe for them to go.
So when we listened, we didn't just hear a problem. We heard an opportunity to partner.
3 years ago, on 3 different occasions, I encountered people who had ended up way down Highway 61 with a buggy carrying everything they owned. I called shelters, sober living and local offices. After 3 years making calls, meetings, searching for resources, trying to find somewhere people can go, these moments have stayed with me. We've learned that every situation is different.
This is why God has allowed Agape to develop a wraparound approach, thinking outside the box, meeting people where they are and helping provide the necessities they need to take their next step. Sometimes that means housing, food, transportation, clothing, employment connections, or simply having someone answer the phone and say, you're not alone. Let's figure this out together.” Now, we're taking another step.
We will provide a safe place for individuals who need somewhere to land while they work toward their next step. We believe this is just the beginning. Whenever we address one situation, doors begin to open for the needs that follow. This isn't just about opening a house. It's about creating a pathway, restoring dignity, meeting a need when the person is standing right in front of us, taking what God has entrusted to us and giving it away.
