Readers & Writers

Readers & Writers Readers & Writers is LSU's premiere literary reading series, bringing acclaimed poets, novelists, and playwrights from around the world to Baton Rouge.

As the home of Louisiana's flagship university and capital city of a state teeming with cultural diversity and a rich artistic heritage, Baton Rouge has the potential to be an important artistic crossroads -- the sort ofplace where writers from all over the world come to share their work and engage in lively conversation with a uniquely engaged audience. Since originating in the LSU English Depart

ment in 1993, Readers & Writers has been instrumental in helping Baton Rouge realize this potential, bringing internationally renowned and award-winning novelists, poets, playwrights, and performers to the city and creating events that provide thoughtful, moving, funny, and always rewarding interactions with people from all over our community. Over the last two decades, Readers & Writers has brought in over 100 nationally-celebrated writers who have shared their work with Louisiana, including Martin Espada, C.D. Wright, Patricia Smith, Billy Collins, Tillie Olsen, Allan Gurganus, Bhanu Kapil, and Yusef Komunyakaa. Readers & Writers is a non-profit organization, and we depend entirely on voluntary contributions. As state support dwindles, the Friends of Readers & Writers have become even more vital to sustaining our programming. Every cent we take in goes toward sponsoring events that are crucial to sustaining the artistic and intellectual life of Baton Rouge. We know you personally value participating in a vibrant cultural community. Please consider making a contribution to Readers & Writers, at whatever level you can afford. Become a member today, and help build a civic legacy that we can all take pride in. Edit
