🎨 What a night to remember! This past Thursday, the Art Guild of Louisiana held our very First Annual Member show at the Studio in the Park — and WOW, did you all show up!

We were absolutely blown away by the incredible turnout: 71 talented artists filled our space with creativity and passion, and 150 guests came out to celebrate with us. For our very first event in our own studio, this was beyond anything we could have hoped for.

🏆 A special congratulations to Kevin Calbert, winner of our People's Choice Award! Kevin's stunning acrylic, "Kirk on Beach, 2024," captured the hearts of our guests and it's easy to see why — it was truly outstanding. Well deserved, Kevin!

To every artist who brought their work and their heart — THANK YOU. To every guest who walked through our doors, showed your support, and made the room come alive — THANK YOU. You made this night truly special.

This is just the beginning. 🌟 We can't wait to see what we create together next.

Acrylic Pouring Workshop! Join us for a lively introduction to acrylic pouring, a contemporary painting technique where liquid acrylic paints are poured onto a surface (watercolor paper and/or Yupo paper) to create flowing, organic abstract patterns. Because the paint moves naturally, every piece is unique and full of surprising color interactions.

In this workshop you will learn:

How to do a pouring underpainting
Basic pouring methods
Tips for selecting color palettes
Techniques for controlling flow and composition
Students will create their own poured paintings on watercolor and Yupo paper and leave with finished artwork as well as the knowledge needed to continue experimenting at home.
This class is beginner-friendly and designed for any level artist who enjoys creative exploration – no prior painting experience required.

This Thursday and Friday!
We’ve been invited by the LSU Museum of Art for a VIP Tour of the stunning Marc Chagall Lithographs Exhibit while it’s here in Baton Rouge.
đź—“ Thursday, May 7
đź•” 5:00 PM
📍 Shaw Center for the Arts
We’ll take in Chagall’s dreamlike world together, full of color, symbolism, and storytelling, then head downstairs for dinner at Capital City Grill to keep the conversation (and inspiration) flowing.
🎨 Then… we paint.
đź—“ Friday (following day) 10a-3p
🎨 Pop-Up Open Studio: “Paint It Like Chagall”
Inspired by Chagall’s interpretation of mythology, we’re inviting you to do the same:
✨ Choose a story that means something to you
✨ Reimagine it through color, emotion, and imagination
✨ Let your brush loosen up and lean into expression over realism
Your story. Your stroke. His style.
Whether you go bold, whimsical, symbolic, or completely unexpected—this is about stepping outside your norm and exploring something new together.
đź’¬ Come for the art. Stay for the community. This is what the Guild is all about. Let us know if you plan to join us so we can coordinate the group!

What an incredible three days at the Guild. Today, we wrapped up an inspiring workshop with Chris Long. Over the course of the workshop, Chris created several demo paintings (all of which sold), each one packed with insight, intention, and his signature bold approach.

And today he took it outside. For the final day, Chris painted a stunning plein air piece of Cedarcrest Park, bringing everything together in real time. Watching his process unfold on location was a powerful experience and a perfect way to close out the workshop.

Only 14 artists had the opportunity to be part of this, making it an intimate, hands-on experience filled with learning, encouragement, and fresh perspective. We are already talking about bringing Chris back next year.

Our Workshop Committee meets Monday and we're settling in on dates for a bunch of additional workshops coming soon. Stay tuned đź‘€
