I am aware of a recent social media post about our organization. Our chapter does not publicly discuss individual membership decisions. However, I want to clarify some misunderstandings about who we are, what we stand for, and what guides our work. Membership is determined solely based on a commitment with the kids in this community. Full Stop.

We are a Black-led, volunteer-driven mentoring organization. We are not a social club or a political organization. Our members come from different professions, backgrounds, and walks of life. The primary measure of membership is a demonstrated commitment to our mission.

The mission of 100 Black Men of Metropolitan Baton Rouge, Ltd. is to give substance to a shared vision that fosters and develops model programs that build community by enhancing the lives of African-American youth. For more than 30 years, our chapter has worked to fulfill that mission and has impacted tens of thousands of young people in this community.

Our work is reflected in measurable outcomes across our core programs:

Mentoring and scholarship access:
Through Project Excel, we directly mentor hundreds of young Black men from 6th through 12th grade and provide access to scholarship opportunities.

Economic empowerment: Through Dollars & $ense and other financial literacy programming, we teach young men and women how to build generational wealth and make responsible financial decisions.

Academic and career readiness: Through ACT Prep Academy, STEM and Robotics Summer Academy, and our Collegiate 100 chapters at LSU and Southern University, we help young people prepare for college, careers, and leadership opportunities.

Justice intervention: Through Not From This House, we have provided judicial diversion for more than 200 first-time, non-violent juvenile offenders.

These are the outcomes by which we measure our work. Our more than 250 members remain committed to mentoring, education, health and wellness, and economic empowerment.

We respect that people may have strong views about politics and public leadership. But our focus remains on the young people in Baton Rouge. We will not be distracted by social media or pulled away from the work that has defined this chapter for more than three decades. Our responsibility is to remain focused on developing positive outcomes for the young people and families we serve.

We invite anyone of goodwill who is committed to that work to continue building with us. If you believe in mentoring, education, health and wellness, and economic empowerment, I encourage you to support the work, volunteer your time, partner with us, and help us continue making a difference in Baton Rouge.
