Safety in construction is about more than equipment, procedures, and compliance. It is about making sure every person on the jobsite is prepared, focused, and able to perform their work safely.

Impairment is a safety risk that can often go unnoticed. While many people associate impairment with substance use, it can also include factors such as fatigue, stress, mental health challenges, and other conditions that impact a worker’s ability to safely perform their job. Recognizing and addressing these risks is an important part of building a strong safety culture.

At SCOAR, we believe collaboration, education, and a commitment to safety are essential to advancing the construction industry. By sharing knowledge and best practices, we can help create safer worksites and protect the people who make our industry successful.

We encourage our members and industry partners to read this important perspective from EHS Today and continue the conversation about identifying risks before they become incidents.

National Safety Council provides grant to study fatigue, a major impairment risk.

At SCOAR, our mission is to advance the construction industry by promoting a culture where every worker returns home safely at the end of the day. This powerful reminder, shared from a Brasfield & Gorrie jobsite, reflects a value that unites our members across the Southeast.

Every decision made on a jobsite should put people first. Through collaboration, education, and the sharing of best practices, SCOAR members continue to raise the standard for safety across our industry.

Thank you to Brasfield & Gorrie for allowing us to share this important message and for their continued commitment to protecting the people who build our communities.

Each month, SCOAR is proud to spotlight our Principal Partner, Contractor Service and Fabrication Inc.. As our only Principal Partner, CSFCO continues to share valuable insights and industry expertise that help strengthen the construction community.

This month, they explore an important topic that impacts every project: managing uncertainty before it becomes a costly challenge. We invite you to read their perspective below.

"The Hidden Cost of Uncertainty in Industrial Construction"

When our projects get off track, it's usually not because somebody can't do the work. More often than not, it's because there were too many unknowns from the start.

Incomplete drawings, changing scopes, tight schedules, material delays, and unanswered questions are what create problems before the first piece of steel is set or the first weld is made. The longer those issues hang around, the more they affect safety, productivity, cost, and the schedule.

That's why contractors do more than build. We ask questions early, look for potential problems before they become real problems, and keep the lines of communication open. A little extra planning on the front end can save a lot of headaches once the work begins.

At CSFCO, we've found that precision isn't just about what happens in the field. It starts with good planning, honest communication, and strong relationships. Get that right, and the rest of the project has a much better chance of going right too.
