๐ŸŒฟ Proud to lend a hand for our coast ๐ŸŒฟ

Today a few of us from the CCA Louisiana IMPACT Team had the privilege of joining Restore or Retreat and a dedicated group of partners and volunteers for a wetlands planting project taking on the coastal land loss that threatens our way of life.

The real credit goes to the organizers and the many volunteers who made today happen:

๐ŸŒฑ Restore or Retreat
๐ŸŒฑ U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Headquarters
๐ŸŒฑ Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority
๐ŸŒฑ Terrebonne Levee And Conservation District
๐ŸŒฑ Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government
๐ŸŒฑ And the DOZENS of volunteers who gave their day to this coast

We were glad to be a small part of a much bigger effort. Every plant in the ground today is an investment in the marshes that protect our communities and shelter our fisheries โ€” and it takes all of us, working together, to get it done.

Thank you to everyone who organized and showed up. Weโ€™re honored to stand alongside you.

We donโ€™t own our coast. We borrow it from our children. ๐ŸŸ

Yesterday our CMO Ryan Page had the privilege of speaking to the 2026 Leadership Terrebonne Class during their Environmental Day in Chauvin โ€” a full day built around "Tradition, Resilience, Conservation: Adapting & Stabilizing the Future of Bonne Terre."

Ryan's session, Coastal Conservation in Louisiana: Protecting Our Marine Resources, made the case that our marine resources aren't just an economic engine or a recreation amenity โ€” they're part of who we are down here. From the marsh to the reef to the bay, protecting them takes engaged people willing to show up and do the work. This class is exactly that kind of group!

Grateful to share the day alongside Polly Glover from Restore or Retreat, Scott Eustis from Healthy Gulf, and Karen Schilling from Leadership Terrebonne. Thanks also to the Morganza Action Coalition, Terrebonne Levee & Conservation District, Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON), Little Caillou Fire Dept, Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government and everyone who made the day happen.

The Louisiana State Senate voted unanimously in favor of designating tarpon as a saltwater game fish earlier this week. HB 688 is on its way to Governor Landry's desk to be signed into law!

As a game fish, tarpon falls under the regulatory authority of the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission. The LWFC may then establish harvest limits and/or tagging requirements. This is an important step toward conserving the Silver King and supporting a strong recreational fishing economy, not only in Louisiana but throughout the Gulf states along tarponโ€™s migratory route.

BTT thanks bill sponsor, Joseph Orgeron District 54 State Representative, and special thanks to our conservation partners, the Louisiana Wildlife Federation and CCA Louisiana.

Fisheries managers may be overestimating catch and effort by 30-40%. We are looking for recreational anglers to help test a new data collection method.
