Professional Fire Fighters Association of Louisiana PFFALA

Professional Fire Fighters Association of Louisiana PFFALA The Professional Fire Fighters Association of Louisiana represents over 4000 fire fighters throughout the state. That is a call we proudly rise to answer.

Since 1940, the Professional Fire Fighters Association of Louisiana has been a voice for the the Louisiana fire service. Today, we represent more than 4000 men and women who proudly serve their communities in an effort to save lives and protect property. In 2012, we began a telephone fundraiser for our community and member programs. Without the support of the residents of Louisiana, our programs w

ould not exist. As fire fighters we realize that we may be needed to go above the call of duty. Chad Major

πŸ”₯ A MAJOR WIN FOR THOSE WHO ANSWER THE CALL πŸ”₯

Firefighters spend their careers running toward danger when everyone else is running away. They protect our homes, our families, and our communities without hesitation.

Today, we're celebrating a meaningful step forward in protecting them.

Expanded precancer screening protections have been signed into law, creating greater access to important screenings and helping firefighters detect potential health concerns earlier. The new law adds esophageal precancer screenings beginning January 1, 2027, provides no cost screening coverage, allows qualified healthcare providers to conduct screenings, and ensures screenings continue after retirement.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this legislation possible. Together, we're building a stronger future for Louisiana firefighters and their families. πŸš’β€οΈ

Cancer is one of the leading occupational health risks facing our firefighters, and it's a fight we refuse to ignore. πŸŽ—οΈπŸ”₯

We continue to honor the memory of those lost on September 11, 2001, including the 343 firefighters and many other emergency first responders. A new generation is growing up in this post 9/11 world, often with no memory or understanding of the impact of the events that September morning. Not only were first responders on scene that day, but also everyday men and women who risked their lives to save others and provide comfort -- Office workers who guided their coworkers out to safety, building staff who ran back in to help others, business owners who provided shelter and relief to those affected, and veterans who donned their old uniforms to help with search and rescue. Countless individuals reacted in seconds to serve others. While some are with us today, others never returned home. Although today is a solemn day of remembrance and prayer, it is also a day of pride in knowing that when America is hurt and people need help, both emergency professionals and volunteers will be there to lend a hand and provide hope. As firefighters, the memory of that day will continue to remind us of the reasons we serve.

This past weekend, at our state convention, we had in attendance representatives and guest speakers from Camp I'm Still Me pediatric burn camp.
Camp founder Dr. Kevin Sittig, Camp Director Eileen McLain, PFFALA Camp Liaison John Smith, as well as camp counselors, spoke of the amazing work being done at the camp and to the positive effect in the children's lives. Their stories, as volunteers and as those who've experienced severe burn injuries as children, attended the camp, and now volunteer as counselors, had a profound impact on our members in attendance. For more than 30 years the camp has provide a fun, safe environment for emotional healing and the formation of lasting bonds with other burn survivors. We are honored and blessed to be able to support the work of the Percy R Johnson Burn Foundation and Camp I'm Still Me, and grateful to those men and women who give so much of their time and love to make this endeavor possible.
