๐บ๐ธ Choctaw Detachment 778 Attends the 2026 Marine Corps League Department of Louisiana Convention ๐บ๐ธ
Members of Choctaw Detachment 778 were proud to attend the 2026 Marine Corps League Department of Louisiana Convention, joining Marines, Associate Members, Auxiliary members, and Devil Dogs from across Louisiana for an outstanding weekend of fellowship, learning, leadership, and camaraderie.
This yearโs convention brought together 101 registered attendees representing all 12 Louisiana Detachments, all 4 Pounds, and all 3 Auxiliary Units, demonstrating the strength and unity of the Marine Corps League family throughout our state.
We were honored to witness PNC Johnny Baker, Past National Commandant of the Marine Corps League and the 2025 National Marine of the Year, install the Department Officers. During the convention, he was also presented with a Quilt of Valor in recognition of his service and dedication.
We were also honored to welcome Past Chief Devil Dog Alan Sanning, who installed the Louisiana Pack Officers, and Dotty Sanning, National President of the Marine Corps League Auxiliary, who installed the Department Auxiliary Officers.
The weekend featured productive committee meetings, an outstanding Commandants Council, informative discussions, and the exchange of ideas that will help strengthen our League at every level. Just as important were the opportunities to reconnect with old friends, meet new members, and continue building the bonds that make the Marine Corps League family so special.
Choctaw Detachment 778 was especially proud to see two of our own recognized for their outstanding service and dedication:
๐ Department Associate Member of the Year โ Lydia Szur
๐ Department Marine of the Year โ Todd Messina
We also congratulate Eugene Pete, recipient of the Pack Dog of the Year Award, for his outstanding contributions to the Military Order of the Devil Dogs.
The sold-out banquet was another highlight of the weekend. With 70 attendees, every seat was filled and interest was so strong that some members unfortunately had to be turned away. It was a tremendous reflection of the enthusiasm and growth of our organization.
Choctaw Detachment 778 would like to thank the Department of Louisiana, the Marine Corps League Auxiliary, the Military Order of the Devil Dogs, the convention staff, and all attendees who helped make this yearโs convention such a success. We returned home with new ideas, renewed motivation, and great pride in the accomplishments of our members and our Department.
Congratulations once again to Lydia and Todd on their well-deserved recognition. Choctaw Detachment 778 is proud to call you our own.
Semper Fidelis! ๐บ๐ธ๐ฆ
