Happy Charter Day to the Marine Corps League Auxiliary!
On September 4, 1937, the Marine Corps League Auxiliary was chartered as a subsidiary organization of the Marine Corps League. For 89 years, our members have carried forward a proud tradition of patriotism, volunteer service, and steadfast support for Marines, veterans, their families, and our communities.

Today we celebrate every member—past and present—who has helped build our Auxiliary and advance its mission.

We’d like to invite any Marines and Marine families to come and be part of family day.

Members of the Choctaw Detachment 778, the Baton Rouge Young Marines, and Choctaw Auxiliary Unit 537 were proud to volunteer at the EBR Schools’ “Roar Into EBR” Early Childhood Open Enrollment event held Saturday at BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo.

The event connected local families with early childhood education resources and enrollment opportunities while providing a fun, family-friendly day filled with activities and community partners.

Representing the Choctaw family were E. Earl Davis, Andrea Costillo, Clarence Friendship, James Grayer, Harold Marcellus, Bryan Powell, Joe Rose, Larry Townsend, and Auxiliary member Mrs. Townsend, who all donated their time to help make the event a success.

Community service remains one of the cornerstones of the Marine Corps League, and we’re honored to stand alongside the Baton Rouge Young Marines in supporting the children and families of our community. Semper Fidelis! 🇺🇸

Choctaw Detachment 778 | July 7, 2026 Meeting Highlights

Our July 7th meeting was another great night for the Choctaw Detachment 778 family!

With nearly 30 members in attendance, along with another outstanding turnout from our Auxiliary, the room was full of energy, fellowship, and a shared commitment to serving our veterans and community.

One of the highlights of the evening was presenting several awards from the Department Convention to members who were unable to attend. It’s always a privilege to recognize those who dedicate so much of their time and effort to the Marine Corps League.

We were also especially proud to recognize Associate Member Lydia Szur, who is also a dedicated member of Choctaw Auxiliary Unit 537, for being named the Marine Corps League Department of Louisiana Associate Member of the Year. This well deserved honor reflects her dedication, hard work, and unwavering support of both our detachment and our auxiliary.

Congratulations to all of our award recipients, and thank you to everyone who came out. Seeing such a strong turnout is a reminder that Choctaw Detachment 778 continues to grow because of the people who make it more than just a meeting. Together, we’re strengthening our League, serving our community, and honoring the traditions of the Marines who came before us.

🇺🇸 Remembering the Fallen. Supporting Those Who Served. 🇺🇸

On May 21, members of the Marine Corps League Choctaw Detachment 778 and the Choctaw Auxiliary Unit 537 were honored to participate in the annual Memorial Day Service at the Louisiana Veterans Home in Jackson, Louisiana.

The ceremony served as a solemn reminder that Memorial Day is more than a holiday. It is a day dedicated to honoring the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. We were privileged to stand alongside the residents, staff, clergy, and the outstanding cadets whose moving flag-folding ceremony paid tribute to our fallen heroes with dignity and respect.

Following the service, the Choctaw Detachment 778 proudly presented the Louisiana Veterans Home with a $1,400 donation to help support the veterans who call the home their own. Serving our veterans and giving back to those who have sacrificed so much remains at the heart of our mission.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Louisiana Veterans Home for allowing us to be part of this meaningful ceremony, and to every veteran whose service, sacrifice, and legacy continue to inspire us.

Honor the Fallen. Serve the Living. Never Forget.
