These items are always in high demand and go directly to individuals and families who rely on St. Vincent de Paul of Baton Rouge for support. Every donation helps restore dignity and provides comfort to someone facing difficult circumstances.

“Our goal isn’t just to provide shelter for a night,” said Sunnie Johnson-Lain, president and CEO. “We help families rebuild stability one step at a time.”

Every step matters. An identification card can open the door to employment. Reliable transportation can help a parent keep a job. Returning to school can restore a child’s routine and sense of belonging.

Through it all, our case managers and support staff offer encouragement, guidance, and care that recognize each family’s dignity.

“The purpose of case management isn’t just to end homelessness,” said Christopher Stewart, a longtime SVDPBR case manager. “We’re here to empower individuals with the support and resources they need to thrive.”

At Sweet Dreams, families can stay together, share meals, complete homework, celebrate birthdays, and end the day knowing they have a safe place to sleep while working toward a home of their own.

We appreciate James Gilmore for joining us as a guest speaker at last weekend’s Readiness and Resiliency Class!

James shared helpful tips with our shelter guests on job interviews, including what to say, what to avoid, and how to confidently talk about their strengths.

At St. Vincent de Paul of Baton Rouge, we help our neighbors move forward by teaching new skills and getting them ready for work. We thank James for sharing his time and knowledge to support our guests as they work toward stability and independence.

Faith brings us together. Service carries that faith into our communities.

We were delighted to recently celebrate alongside our fellow Vincentians at St. Vincent de Paul of Grand Coteau’s annual gala, supporting their mission to help neighbors facing hardship.
Their faithful service reminds us of the heart of our shared mission: walking alongside our neighbors with compassion, honoring their dignity, and helping them find a way forward.

"We know this store is a staple in our community," said Johnson-Lain. "The store has been here for a long time, and we have many faithful customers. We know them by name because they come daily or many times a week. They missed us not being here, and they are excited to see us back."

Our last thrift store renovation is finished, and we are open for business again!
