Today is a big day! ๐ŸŽ‚

It's the birthday of Dialogue on Race Louisiana's Founder, President, and CEO, Maxine Crump!! ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿฅณ

Hi everyone! I'm Jasmine Pogue, Dialogue on Race's Fundraising Coordinator! I'm taking over the DOR social media pages for a moment to tell you why today matters so much to me.

I first met Maxine in 2016. I was angry, volatile, and confused, looking for something besides the vitriol I was getting from friends and colleagues over the political rhetoric of that election. There was a Dialogue on Race Original Series happening in my neighborhood. I signed up, unsure what it was, but hopeful it could make sense of what I was struggling with.

By the end of the series, I didn't have all the answers, but I finally had hope. I had a place that gave me a way to talk that didn't leave me feeling so angry.

Ten years later, I'm a volunteer staff member of Dialogue on Race, 1,500+ miles from Louisiana in Massachusetts. I've learned so much from Maxine that I've applied far beyond the sphere of racism, in parenting, at work, in how I see the world. Just this week, colleagues were talking about a prospect that didn't look feasible. Maxine taught me to always ask, "What can we do?" So I asked them the same. The conversation shifted immediately, and it ended on a high note.

Swipe to see how Maxine has impacted the Dialogue on Race interns too โžก๏ธ

From Dialogue on Race Louisiana, a message of Celebration and recognition for our Country's Declaration of Independence Anniversary:

As we celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the ideals of liberty and equality it put forth, we also pause to acknowledge that its promise did not initially extend to everyone.

True progress lies in honoring our history while continuing the shared work of fulfilling that promise for all.

Moving from "Calling Out" to "Calling In"

You shouldnโ€™t have to fight every battle in the social media comments alone. The normalization of casual racism online can feel overwhelming, but you don't have to just "get used to it."

Dialogue on Race Louisiana provides the structured framework to dismantle the myths you see on your feed. We give you the tools to lead conversations that actually change mindsโ€”moving beyond "clapping back" toward real systemic change.

Join the upcoming Dialogue on Race Series. See for yourself how structured dialogue transforms frustration into hope and informed action. Register here:

โ€œWhat would Dr. King say about todayโ€™s so-called โ€˜unprecedentedโ€™ era of division?โ€

This question is asked every year as United States Americans reflect on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This year, the Dialogue on Race staff revisited Dr. Kingโ€™s own words.

Across his writings and speeches, Dr. King spoke directly about peace without justice, silence in the face of injustice, racial and economic inequality, and the moral cost of passivity.

As Americans in the US honor Dr. King this MLK Day, Dialogue on Race invites reflection not only on what he dreamed, but on what he demanded of us.
