It was on a Saturday afternoon around 3:00 pm November 4, 1978 at an A.M.E. Church that the woman I love and chose to marry walked in that church in the arms of her father as Miss Black and walked out of that same church in my arms as Mrs Greenup!

What was the thoughts going through that 20 year old young man's mind as he strolled down the aisle of that church with his newly wedded wife as the people looked on.

Was he thinking about the responsibility he just acquired? Was he thinking she will be sleeping with me tonight? Or was he thinking what does my future looks like now that I have someone to share it with?

Whatever was on his mind on that November afternoon it laid the foundation and paved the pathway for the family and home that the two of them built together and as I now look back 47 years from where it all started and how far the two of us have traveled together, we can only thank God that we made it thus far by His Grace and by His goodness!

To that I say...To God be the glory!

It was forty-seven years ago on a Friday November 3, 1978 I was filled with much anticipation and floods of emotions for it was the day before the biggest life changing event outside of salvation that was about to take place. On Saturday November 4, 1978 I was going to share the rest of my life with Karen LaVelle Black as my wife, companion and friend.

I was young with no real experience of living on my own, or paying "real" bills such as rent, utilities, water, or even buying groceries let alone taking on the role as provider and protector of someone else's adult daughter.

This was new to both of us because we never really lived for any length of time outside of the comfort of our parent's home and provisions.

We were both 2 years into college and we both dropped the bomb on our parents that we decided to quit school and get married. And after much debate from both sides we convinced our parents that we had decided to get married with or without their blessings and thankfully they all eventually gave us the nod and their blessings.

So Friday was a day of wedding rehearsals and a rehearsal dinner and then the last few hours left as my single status was slipping away making room for married head of household.

On the morrow, Karen and I will be Husband and Wife and the beginning of a new chapter in our lives together as Lovers and Friends!
