APSE supports the only annual national conference focused solel

y on the advancement of integrated employment. Our Name

The official name of the organization has gone through several changes since its inception more than 25 years ago. It was first called the Association for Persons in Supported Employment. In the 90's, the name was changed to APSE: The Network on Employment. In 2012, the APSE Board of Directors changed APSE's acronym definition to Association of People Supporting EmploymentFirst (APSE). Our Goals:

Promote employment opportunities for all people, through local, regional, and national networks. Help establish and expand equitable employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Advocate with federal, state, and local legislators for legislation promoting integrated employment. Work with federal, state, and local policy makers to increase funding for integrated employment. Raise awareness within the business community as to the benefits of hiring individuals with disabilities. Advocate for social change to help those with severe disabilities achieve a lifestyle that approximates that of individuals without disabilities.

For students with autism, a task analysis will be one of the most valuable strategies in the educator’s toolbox.

A task analysis is not a task list or a checklist for the student but rather a tool for the person teaching the new skill. A task analysis provides structure, ensuring that a skill is taught the same way each time the student engages in the activity or task. It is important to run through the task with student to see how they may choose to complete the task. Using a well-written TA as part of an instructional program can provide the consistency that is needed for skill acquisition and can be used to teach virtually any type of skill!
