Freedom is not a destination—it is a continuous journey that requires education, advocacy, and action.

The NAACP Louisiana State Conference is proud to participate in the 4th Annual Juneteenth Freedom Festival at Whitney Plantation. Join us for “Let Freedom Reign,” a powerful panel discussion featuring community leaders, advocates, and changemakers as we reflect on our history, honor those who came before us, and discuss the work that still lies ahead.

As we commemorate Juneteenth, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting civil rights, advancing equity, and ensuring that every voice is heard. Freedom was won through sacrifice, and it is sustained through civic engagement, education, and collective action.

Michael McClanahan, current NAACP Louisiana State Conference President, speaks on the current LA redistricting process. SB121 passed on the house floor yesterday, a map with 5-1 representation.

"If somebody slams your hand in the door, if you don't say anything, they'll think it's all right. So we're here to tell them it's not okay."

Our voices matter. Our communities matter. Our representation matters. We deserve fair maps. Show up. Speak out. Stay engaged. The work continues.

As conversations continue around Louisiana’s SB121, we must continue advocating for transparency, equity, and representation that truly reflects our communities. Fair maps mean fair representation — and every community deserves to have its voice heard and protected.

Now more than ever, we must remain informed, organized, and active in the democratic process. The decisions being made today will shape the future of our schools, neighborhoods, voting power, and opportunities for generations to come.

We cannot afford to be silent. We must continue to mobilize, educate, and advocate — not only during elections, but every day. Real change happens when people stand together and demand accountability.

Get involved. Stay engaged. Make your voice heard.
