After more than 30 years, Pat Maguire has dedicated her life to the children & their families served by the Midcoast Maine Community Action Head Start program - friends and colleagues joined Wednesday June 3rd to wish her a very happy retirement!

Pat is a staunch advocate for children, and especially those with special needs. She is also a veteran, serving in the US Army and was stationed with her husband and sons across the globe before settling in Maine.

Always the first to arrive at work and last to leave, she leaves a legacy of strong work ethic and a passion for helping others that is unmatched.

Thank you, Pat! We are all so very thankful for your years of service and so excited for you to finally enjoy days off and spend more time with your family. ❤️

Tickets are on sale now for our 1st annual Community in Action event! Join us for an evening celebrating service, community, and our vision for a thriving Midcoast!

Community in Action is MMCA’s annual summer event that brings people inside our building to experience our impact through powerful storytelling—and invest in the work shaping a stronger Midcoast.

University of Southern Maine Media Studies graduate and Bath local, Fiona Brown, chose MMCA as the subject of her documentary practicum project. The film highlights what happens when a community moves from caring to action. This event serves as the films' premiere, as well as as a conversation starter about the work we've done and will continue to do.

Light refreshments will be available.

Sixty-one years ago, Head Start started as an 8-week summer program. Eight weeks. The idea was modest by design, a way to see if reaching kids early could make a difference.

It made a difference.

What grew from those first summers is now one of the longest-running early childhood programs in American history, serving families in cities, rural towns, tribal communities, and migrant farmworker camps alike. Forty million children and counting.

Today we mark 61 years — not just with pride, but with real gratitude for the teachers, family advocates, nurses, and parents who do this work every single day.
