While Dorothy followed the yellow brick road in the Wizard of Oz, we can't wait to see patrons both new and old following the newly paved road in the downtown Batesburg District!

While it may not seem like a lot to some people, roads are a great starting point for drawing businesses in and creating a foundation for the future of a community. Always remember, progress is progress no matter how you look at it and we are excited to see it!

Resurfacing work has begun on North Oak Street. Please use caution when in the area. This project is funded by the Batesburg-Leesville Hospitality Tax.

On January 5th, 2022, I attended a Zoom meeting concerning the growth and future of Lexington County. There were participants from all over the county, some community officials, some mayors, and some citizens of the 15 different municipalities.

The county has created a new Comprehensive Plan for Lexington County that will guide decision-making for changes towards the different communities that come in the form of new development, infrastructure investment, and new community programs and initiatives.

Please feel free to use the link below to access this Comprehensive Plan and help make suggestions in the Feedback section to help draw some attention to our wonderful community! The deadline to provide feedback in on January 28th, 2022 so please be sure to provide your feedback soon!

Over the course of the last year and a half, the Steering Committee for the project has been working with the project team to prepare the public review draft of the Comprehensive Plan. Please review the plan and provide your input by completing the survey.

Hello there citizens of Batesburg-Leesville!

I would first like to formally apologize for not being as active with the page as we were in the beginning of this organization's start. Creating such an organization like the one that we envision takes a lot of time and effort to ensure that we create something that truly works for our unique community. As we all know as well, life sometimes gets in the way along with general discouragement from outside factors. Please be patient with us while we work to slowly get started up again and help lead our wonderful community into something amazing!

Hello all!

Following our founding council meeting yesterday we have decided on how to set up our organization! Below is information concerning our organization set up in terms of committees, etc.

Executive Committee:

There will be an executive committee made up of 9 individuals, 4 of which being the founding council. We would personally love to see a diverse executive committee made up of people of different races, ages, genders, etc. With that being said,, there are some stipulations. Members on the executive committee can not be town government members, officers for another organization, and can not be married to someone already on the executive committee.

Sub Committees:

With wanting more community involvement and to attempt to get a few projects in the works, the organization will have sub committees. For example, we are considering having a grants/event sub committee or an art sub committee. These sub committees will have to run ideas by the executive committee to get approval before moving forward. The number of people on each sub committee will be determined by the committee itself and will be decided on when a sub committee is presented to the executive committee.

Volunteers/Members:

We want as much community involvement as possible! Even if there isn't a spot on the executive committee or even a sub committee, we would love to have you volunteer with us for potential projects and spreading the word of our organization!

To be considered for a position, please feel free to comment or send us a message on Facebook with what you would be interested in! Remember by sending a message or leaving a comment you will only be considered for a position.

Thank yall so much and we look forward to a wonderful future!

***While this is a first attempt to reach out to the community, remember that we will be professional and not tolerate racism, acts of violence, etc. If you have a history of this, you may not be considered for a position.***

After our post yesterday and seeing how many people were interested in the organization and the master plan provided by the town, here is a little update:

While TCAR is still in the process of figuring out our founding committee and becoming an official nonprofit organization, we will become open to members, create connections/contacts, and potentialy expand our founding committee. We are so thrilled to see the community interest in both the organization and town provided master plan. We are always open to suggestions and want to hear from the community in order to create a more diverse organization and become a wonderful asset for our unique town! We look forward to the future growth within our town and what we can, and WILL, achieve!

Hey y’all!

While TCAR is still in the beginning stages and creating a founding committee to eventually expand on, we are still getting good responses from people and businesses within the community.

Realizing that some people did not know that the town has a master plan, we have attached renderings of both downtowns and a link to view the rest. There is an abundance of information on this presentation. While being the current and future plan for the town, the master plan includes renovations to downtown Batesburg and Leesville, the creation of Unity Park, restoring Depot Park, creating the Leesville Linear Park, creating a Haynes Auditorium courtyard and improving Haynes Auditorium architecture.

( Link for the master plan:https://batesburg-leesville.org/Data/Sites/1/media/2020-master-plan---council-presentation.pdf )

These projects are funded with the revenue tax. This is $0.02 on the dollar for “prepared” food and drink. This meaning restaurants, Walmart Deli, soda machines in convenience stores, anything prepared and/or consumed on their premises. The town has more information on these projects and where funding comes from, we are only presenting the master plan to you all. There are other budgets set aside for town upkeep, etc.

*Reminder: Under no circumstances will acts of violence, racism, etc. be tolerated. TCAR is not affiliated with Town Council initiatives, we serve as an idea/volunteer forum for the time being.
