Here are some ways to strengthen your mental toughness:

πŸ€ Be present in the shot at hand and not the ones in the past or future
πŸ€ Tune out distractions such as conversations among spectators
πŸ€ Avoid making excuses and take accountability for your actions, blaming a bad shot on an outside factor won’t help you grow
πŸ€ Focus on keeping a consistent process from loading to follow through

How do you practice so the stress of competition is lessened?

On this date in history, October 19, 1781, the world was turned upside down.

After weeks of being trapped and bombarded at Yorktown, Virginia, British General Lord Cornwallis finally saw that his position was hopeless.

His forces were surrounded on land by a combined army of American and French soldiers led by General George Washington, and his sea escape was cut off by the French Navy.

On that day, the formal surrender took place. More than 7,000 British soldiers laid down their arms, marking the most significant defeat for the Crown in the entire war. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Interestingly, General Cornwallis claimed to be ill and did not attend the ceremony himself. He sent his second-in-command, General Charles O'Hara, in his place.

O'Hara first attempted to surrender his sword to the French Commander, who then directed him to General Washington. Washington, upholding military protocol, had O'Hara present the sword to his own second-in-command, Benjamin Lincoln.

This was a poignant moment, as it was Lincoln who had been forced to surrender to the British at Charleston a year earlier. πŸ™

As the defeated British soldiers marched out to lay down their weapons, their bands are said to have played a tune called β€œThe World Turned Upside Down.”

The surrender at Yorktown effectively ended major combat in the American Revolution and was the final blow that led to negotiations for peace.

This victory secured American independence and laid the foundation for the United States of America.

SPC Amber Kingshill Marks Mountain Man History at 2025 National Trophy Rifle Matches

CAMP PERRY, Ohio – SPC Amber Kingshill, 22, of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU), met her goal for the 2025 National Matches at Camp Perry – fire the scores she knows she can reach.

Leading up to the annual National Matches, Kingshill had been unsatisfied with her wavering consistency in practice. As a former junior competitor with the California Grizzlies highpower team (a group that famously travels to Camp Perry every year), she was aware of the unique outdoor environment only found at the National Matches along with the extraordinary pressure that comes with competing at the renowned event – and she was eager for the challenge.

With her combined scores in the President’s Match, NTI and NTT, reaching a total of 1,281-52X, she had become just the second woman in history to overtake the coveted Mountain Man Trophy – one of the highest honors of the National Rifle Matches.
