Latinos in Heritage Conservation is the national leader in preserving the nation’s diverse Latinx heritage and encouraging Latinx leadership within the field of historic preservation. Founded in 2014, Latinos in Heritage Conservation is a national network of professionals, educators, and advocates focused on preserving historic Latino sites and sustaining the living cultural heritage of Latino com

munities. Our goal is to empower individuals and neighborhoods throughout the country to exchange ideas and advocate for specific historic places, resources, funding, representation, and more. We seek to create an intergenerational dialogue among Latino preservationists about places that matter in our communities and to share strategies for protecting them, bridging the gap between activists on the ground and the broader preservation field. LHC invites our community to join the conversation on our page, and we ask that you keep your postings relevant to historic preservation and Latinx history, culture, and places.

During our team's visit to Chicago in May of 2026, we visited one of the largest and most prominent Mexican-American neighborhoods in the city: Little Village.

La Villita, as it is affectionately known, stands as a testament to the resistance and cultura of Latinx communities in Chicago. This neighborhood’s story of immigration and activism is shaped by generations who turned challenges into strength.

Let's continue the conversation at and be part of the movement for Latinx heritage and leadership! 🌱🔗 latinoheritage.us/congreso2026

What does it mean to reckon with César Chávez’s legacy today? In this powerful op-ed on The Latino Newsletter , LHC's executive director Sehila Mota Casper and board member Dr. Laura Dominguez explore how sexual misconduct allegations against César Chávez are reshaping public memory, while urging a path forward that confronts harm without erasing the collective history of the farmworker movement.

Read full op-ed here:

As allegations of sexual abuse emerge, Latina historians and preservationists examine how to confront harm while preserving the broader history of the farmworker movement

History doesn't only live in archives.

Last week, ahead of Congreso 2026, our team spent time walking through Pilsen, a neighborhood shaped by generations of migration, organizing, cultural expression, and community care.

Pilsen's history includes struggles for language access, education, representation, housing, and neighborhood preservation. It is a place where community members have long organized to shape their own future and protect what matters most.

This August, we'll continue those conversations at Congreso 2026 in Chicago, bringing together preservationists, community leaders, advocates, storytellers, students, and practitioners from across the country.

Join us as we explore the people, places, and histories shaping Latino heritage today.

El 17 de junio de 2026, a las 12:00 p. m. ET / 9:00 a. m. PT, acompáñanos en una importante conversación durante America 250: We Are Here – Estamos Aquí.

🎙️ From Latino USA to Congreso: Maria Hinojosa Takes the Mic in Chicago

We are thrilled to announce that Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, author, and Futuro Media founder Maria Hinojosa will join us as a keynote speaker at Congreso 2026.

For nearly 40 years, Maria has challenged America to see the people and stories too often left out of the conversation. Through Latino USA and her groundbreaking journalism, she has helped millions better understand the complexities of identity, immigration, culture, and belonging.

Her work reminds us that stories matter. They shape how we see ourselves, our communities, and our shared history.

Join us in Chicago as Maria takes the stage for a conversation about storytelling, cultural memory, representation, and the power of making the invisible visible.

In 2024 LHC launched the Latinx Route 66 Road Trip for the Abuelas Project. Our journey took us from Amarillo, Texas to Santa Monica, California. We documented Latinx stories that are often left out of the narrative of American history.

Two years later, our team celebrates the 100 years of the Mother Road. This time in Chicago during our preparation for our biennial leadership summit, Congreso 2026.

Happy anniversary, Route 66!
