đź’™ END OF WATCH: Montgomery County Deputy Erika Serrato Killed in the Line of Duty
The Texas law enforcement community is mourning the loss of Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Erika Serrato, who was killed in the line of duty early Sunday morning while serving and protecting others.
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 2:39 a.m. on June 28 to a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 45 North near the Woodlands Parkway exit. As deputies investigated the crash and directed traffic with emergency lights activated, a heavy-duty commercial truck pulling a trailer struck Deputy Serrato while she was outside her patrol vehicle.
Deputy Serrato, 24, was transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. She had faithfully served with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for six years and was assigned to District 2.
Another deputy sustained minor injuries after being struck by debris and has since been treated and released.
Authorities say one of the drivers involved in the original crash, 34-year-old Ashton Jammer, has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated. The circumstances surrounding the commercial truck that struck Deputy Serrato remain under investigation.
In a statement, Sheriff Wesley Doolittle said:
“Our hearts are broken today. Deputy Serrato made the ultimate sacrifice while serving and protecting our community. We ask that you keep her family, friends, and fellow deputies in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.”
Deputy Erika Serrato’s service, courage, and sacrifice will not be forgotten.
