Quarantine kept us away from seeing our beloved senior population in-person at the Y. That’s why we reinvented ourselves and created a brand-new virtual YMCA to provide our vulnerable populations with access to live fitness classes and hundreds of on-demand options via mobile device or desktop!

Since 2011, the Bastrop YMCA has provided health, wellness, recreation and enrichment programming to Bastrop County residents. During that time, the Y has invested more than $1 million in the community, with an average subsidy of nearly $150,000 each year for our operations in Bastrop. We have been committed to meeting community needs, even if it means operating at a loss. But the COVID-19 pandemic has put us in a position in which our organization can no longer absorb significant annual losses.

As a result, on December 18, 2020, we will be closing the Bastrop YMCA and discontinuing all programming.

We understand the disappointment this may cause. We've had to make some tough decisions in the overall best interests of organization and our community so we can be here in the future for those who need us. Across our three-county service area, membership numbers at the YMCA have dropped. Compounding the problem, we haven't been able to offer our traditional revenue-producing programs such as afterschool care, summer camp, swim lessons and youth sports. We have explored a variety of options to support our operations, from grants to partnerships with healthcare providers to financial support from city and county funds. But we have exhausted our options.

All Bastrop YMCA branch members will be welcomed at other YMCA of Austin branches, and we will preserve your reduced monthly rate as well as continue your access to Virtual YMCA programming.
