🧘♀️Monday Mantra🧘♀️
Nat'l PTSD Awareness Day was this past Saturday. I'm taking a moment to reflect on the realities of a particular kind of parenthood.
We've all seen the memes comparing the lived experience of parenting special needs children to PTSD-like stress responses in war veterans. While the research isn't a direct 1:1 correlation, the overlap in symptoms is real: chronic hypervigilance, disrupted sleep, sensory and emotional overload, and the constant need to stay "on."
We build schedules that function more like scaffolding than plans. We choose flexibility over consistency because regulation matters more than appearances. We look permissive from the outside, but we're doing the hardest kind of real-time advocacy on the inside.
It's hard. And it's also beautiful. So when you question yourself this week (or any week), remember: You're not off track. You're building a different map.
