The sweet peas have been spectacular this year, from delicate white blossoms to plump pods - but judging by the pile of half-eaten pods beneath the vines, the chipmunks have certainly noticed. We don’t mind sharing - though perhaps they’d leave us just a few more! 🐿️💚

Meanwhile, our garlic harvest is officially complete. Hundreds of bulbs are now hanging on the porch to cure over the next several weeks before they’re cleaned, weighed, and donated to those in need.

Along the way, Thérèse captured some beautiful moments in the garden—the lavender buzzing with life, herbs thriving after the rain, and those gorgeous peas that remind us why we garden in the first place.

🥕 Giving Garden update: We’ve now harvested and donated 328 pounds of fresh produce this season, with much more still to come.

Every pound represents neighbors helping neighbors, and every visit to the garden offers a new surprise.

Thank you to everyone who joined us Saturday evening for unforgettable performances by Hurray for the Riff Raff and Free Range.

From the morning throughout the day, there was a wonderful feeling on the farm. Volunteers arrived to begin transforming the grounds, our sound crew and musicians brought the stage to life, and then guests began streaming in with lawn chairs, blankets, picnics, and smiling faces. By the time the music began, there was a palpable sense that something special was about to happen.

And what a special evening it was. We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful night or a more gracious audience. Thank you for supporting live music, for supporting the Ross Farm, and for helping create the kind of welcoming community that makes evenings like this so memorable.

A heartfelt thank you as well to our volunteers, sponsors, Band of Friends members, our Concert Audio sound crew, and to Louise Hale and Sarah Bonnefoi of the Basking Ridge Fire Company No. 1 EMS, who were on site throughout the evening, ready to assist if needed. It truly takes a village to bring concerts like these to life.

Something always comes from the music - and on Saturday night, it brought us together. We’re so grateful you were part of it. 💚🎶

Today we honor Juneteenth.

As a place where history is preserved and shared, the Ross Farm recognizes this important day and the opportunity it offers to reflect, learn, and continue building a more just future.

One of our beautiful bush nasturtiums from last year has re- emerged and is beginning to bloom, with its first striking red flower peeking through the foliage. Nasturtiums are wonderful companion plants in the garden, attracting pollinators, and both their leaves and flowers are edible.

Also blooming now in our historic herb bed is our perennial rue. Its delicate yellow flowers are especially attractive to pollinators, including swallowtail butterflies. Grown for centuries, rue has a rich history in both medicine and cooking and has long been valued for its insect-repelling properties.

While the flowers feed pollinators and delight visitors, the vegetables continue to nourish our community. We’ve now donated 275.5 pounds of fresh produce to those in need this season. 💚

There is always something new blooming, growing, or buzzing in the garden this time of year! 🌼🦋🌱
