We Need Handwritten Cards & Letters for Our Troops!

Operation Support our Troops - America is running low on handwritten cards and letters — one of the most meaningful items we include in our Comfort and Care Packages and in our upcoming Holiday Stocking Program. This is a great project for community groups, churches, schools, etc.

These notes are the first thing deployed service members see when they open their 20‑lb Comfort and Care Package, and they remind them that we appreciate them, support them, and are thinking of them.

Today, the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program was deeply honored to receive the 2026 Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher Distinguished Civilian Humanitarian Award—one of the Department of War’s highest civilian honors for humanitarian service.

This recognition reflects nearly 80 years of serving children and families in need and recognizes the unwavering dedication of the Marines, local volunteers, donors, community partners, and supporters who make our mission possible.

While this recognition is a tremendous honor, it also serves as a reminder that our work continues.

Every toy collected.
Every book distributed.
Every family supported.
Every child reminded they are seen, valued, and never forgotten.

At Great Lakes National Cemetery near Detroit, some funerals are completely empty. No family. No friends. Just a funeral director, a priest, and a few teenage boys wearing white gloves.

These teenagers are part of the St. Joseph of Arimathea Pallbearer Ministry. Started in 2015 by students at University of Detroit Jesuit High School, the program ensures that no one is buried alone.

At their very first service, the boys carried the caskets of three homeless veterans whose bodies had gone unclaimed at the county morgue.

Named after the biblical figure who cared for Jesus's body, the ministry has inspired dozens of students from the all-boys school to step up as "men for others."

Dressed in matching suits, they carry the caskets and pray at the gravesite.

"We represent the family that is not here and that is a privilege" said student co-founder Lenny Froehlich.

The experience sticks with the students long after graduation, completely changing how they see people who go unnoticed by the world.

It proves a simple but powerful truth: the ultimate service is simply showing up to be present for someone.
