Well, that escalated quickly. While many of you were hanging out with us at our fundraiser Saturday, Big Horn County Search & Rescue was in the middle of a four-mission weekend. At this rate, we might start calling ourselves the Cloud Peak Welcoming Committee.

Mission #44: Cloud Peak
Friday, we received a report of an overdue hiker last seen near the summit of Cloud Peak. A team headed up the trail, but around 1 a.m., we got the update we always like to hear: he had made it back to camp safely, and no assistance was needed.

Mission #45: Bighorn Canyon
Saturday night during our fundraiser, we got a call for a boater needing assistance roughly 18 miles north of Barry Landing. Two members deployed our jet boat and headed north. Fortunately, the boater managed to get his motor partially running and made it about six miles back toward us. We met him, hooked up, and towed him safely back to Barry Landing around dark.

Mission #46: Cloud Peak. Again.
Sunday morning brought two more overdue hikers on Cloud Peak. We sent a ground team in from the West Tensleep Trailhead, and they caught up with them shortly afterward and escorted them safely back to the trailhead.

Mission #47 Cloud Peak. Do you detect a theme?
Sunday night, we received another report of an overdue hiker on Cloud Peak. While we were preparing to deploy, we received confirmation that the hiker was safely off the mountain.

For everyone who came out Saturday, bought a raffle ticket, grabbed a beer, bid on an auction item, donated, or simply showed up: this is what you’re supporting.

We will find out the final results during the Defender Days festival on Saturday, September 12. Thank you all for your votes, shares, and support!
