Basin Fire, responded to a wild land fire incident in the town of Basin last night.

The Gold Fire was knocked down swiftly and efficiently by our crew, with mutual aid from Cataract fire, Bull Mountain, Jefferson City, Boulder, and Montana City.

Amazing work from everyone, some even leaving on camera interviews to save our school, to then save our town.

We're blessed to have volenteers like these, working diligently to be aware and ready when needed.

See the story that made the news, here in this link. If you have additional photos of the incident or crew, please pm them or drop them in the comments.

Fire Safety Week day 4

FIRE TRUCK DAY!!

Students had the opportunity to meet some of our Fire Department members, hear the siren and tour an ambulance thanks to Boulder Ambulance and their EMT Jack for bringing out a rig for them to check out!

Its important for the students to meet members, see the rigs and know they're safe. In moments of trauma, kids can get easily scared when dealing with the unknown on top of big moments.
Whether its a house fire, car accident or dog bite, an ambulance could be on scene.
Being able to walk the kids through, check out the inside and see some of the commonly used EMT tools, will help the kids familiarize themselves with an otherwise scary space.

Students also saw that even their teachers can be fire fighters. Teacher Lettie put her turn outs on and used the smaller hose for the kids to see her in action. They sure enjoyed that!!

Assistant Chief Scott Sherwood went full gear today, demonstrating to kids how his voice changes and becomes hard to hear in the SCBA. It also showed just how hard it is to see a fire fighters face behind the mask.

Fire fighter Vanessa joined us again! She was a huge help keeping kiddos entertained while they waited their turn to tour the Ambulance.

Big Thank you to Cragen Cakes for the Delicious cookies!! They were the perfect addition to the safety bags!

Thank you to everyone who participated this week! Its up to all of us to be FIRE SAFE!!

Huge thank you to our Boulder friends for coming out to meet kids and help!

Fire safety day 2!
PLAN AND PREPARE

its important for every family to have a plan.
When talking with students yesterday, Fire Fighter Vanessa and I talked about how to make a plan, practice it, and keep it where everyone in the family can see it.

Keeping the plan somewhere visible keeps it in the front of your mind, making it easier to recall when you need it!

Its easiest to sit down as a group and draw your home lay out, marking at least TWO exits.
As long as its safe, exits can include windows.

If both of your planned exits aren't available,
WAIT FOR HELP. DONT HIDE.
Bathrooms make good spots to wait. Block the bottom of the door with a TOWEL to help keep smoke out.

Remember, practice practice practice!!

Its FIRE SAFETY WEEK!!

today kicked off our first day of fire safety week with our local school.
The first thing we focused on this week was the importance of calling 9-1-1.
Teaching kids when to call for help is important! Teaching them when NOT to call 9-1-1 is just as important!

With the help of our charismatic SRO Deputy B. from the Jefferson County Montana Sheriff's Office, we went over what different fire and non fire related reasons are to call and made sure to talk about different reasons we wouldn't need 9-1-1. The kids did an excellent job of knowing the difference!
We also taught kiddos to never hang up! Its ok to make mistakes and if you don't feel comfortable telling dispatch that it was an accident, you can have an adult tell them.

Our own Fire Fighter Johnny joined us as well! He did a great job going over his Bunker gear, also known as turn outs, with the kids and explaining the different pieces of his uniform with them! He did an excellent job showing them how fast he can get his gear on!

Our story today was read by Kristeana Sherwood, our Fire Safety week organizer!

As we continue this important week, we'd like to remind everyone to follow the fire safety rules!
1. Make a plan and PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE
2. Have a designated meet up point!
PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE
3. Don't touch hot doors! Use the BACK of your hand to see if the door is HOT!
4. STAY LOW AND GO!
5. DO NOT reenter the building!! Not for toys, people or pets!!!

Thank you to the Sheriff's department amd Fire Fighter Johnny for your help today!
