Great things are happening right here in our community.
Clara A. Lauterbach Park continues to grow into something special for Bartonville families, and we’re proud to see it expand with the opening of the new playground this Earth Day.
A big shoutout to Jack Ledeboer for his Eagle Scout project, building and installing three benches along Clara’s Trail. Projects like this don’t just check a box, they leave a lasting impact for years to come.
Clara’s Trail is becoming a true example of Scout-led service. John Meyer, another Troop 200 Eagle Scout, completed his project by building two bridges along the trail, making it safer and easier for everyone to enjoy. And there’s more to come, with another Troop 200 Eagle Scout project on the trail set to begin very soon.
We’re grateful to be part of a community that values service, leadership, and giving back. Thank you to the Bartonville Park Committee, village leadership, and all the volunteers who continue to invest in this space.
If you haven’t been out to Clara’s Trail or the new playground yet, go check it out.
Proud to represent Troop 200.
Bartonville Park Committee marked Earth Day with a ribbon‑cutting ceremony celebrating the grand opening of the new playground area at Clara A. Lauterbach Park.
This year’s Earth Day celebration officially opened the newly completed playground, which features a large fenced‑in play area, picnic tables, benches, and a swing bench donated by Deb Jones in honor of her parents. Designed for families and visitors of all ages, the new playground provides a welcoming space for outdoor recreation. Members of the park committee were on hand to distribute treat bags and Lauterbach Park stickers to attendees.
The event builds on last year’s Earth Day celebration, which included a ribbon cutting for Clara’s Trail, another recent enhancement to the park.
During this year’s ceremony, the committee also recognized Eagle Scout Jack Ledeboer for his service project, which included the construction and installation of three hand‑built benches along Clara’s Trail. Each bench features a plaque detailing the accomplishment.
Clara A. Lauterbach Park now offers a variety of amenities, including two pickleball courts, a small pavilion with four picnic tables, and a roadway winding along a creek bordered by exposed limestone hillsides. A tree‑lined drive follows the creek bed and leads to a large open area at the top of the hill, one of the few remaining areas of the park yet to be developed..
Heidi Rhea, Director of Parks and Recreation, thanked the park committee for its hard work and dedication, as well as the volunteers, Boy Scout Troop 200, the Village Board, and the Public Works Department for their continued support. With strong community backing, the park committee has helped bring new life to Clara A. Lauterbach Park and hopes more residents will visit, explore, and enjoy the park’s natural beauty and peaceful setting.
