βTwas the night before Oldies βn Goodies, and all through the town,
The streets of old Dewey were quieting down.
The chrome had been polished, the windshields were clean,
And the finest old cars were about to be seen.
The hot rods sat waiting, all polished and bright,
While muscle cars rested beneath the moonlight.
The classics were tucked in, their owners were too,
For tomorrow was calling β and there was plenty to do.
For 39 years, this tradition has grown,
And tomorrow downtown, the cars will be shown.
From polished-up cruisers to hot rods with flair,
There'll be plenty of horsepower and chrome everywhere.
And this year's adventure has a theme that's just right,
For folks who believe the long way's worthwhile:
π£οΈ βA DETOUR WORTH TAKING: NORTH OF THE MOTHER ROAD.β
So forget the fast lane, forget rushing through,
There's a detour tomorrow with plenty to do.
Take the road into Dewey, come see what we bring β
A day full of classics, community and everything!
At 8:00 AM sharp, we'll be ready to go,
As registration opens for the cars that we know.
Until 10:30 AM, there's still time to arrive,
Then find yourself downtown where the classics come alive.
And if you're up early β as car people tend to be β
There's breakfast in the park waiting, hot and ready.
Grab something to eat, grab yourself a cup,
Then start making your way through the cars lined up.
At 9:00 AM, another tradition begins,
As the Silent Auction opens for bids to come in.
There's treasures to find, so take a good look,
But you've only till noon β so don't miss your chance!
At 10:00 AM, the youngsters take part,
With pedal tractors ready to get a head start. π
Sign up the kids and get them in line,
Then 10:30 AM β it's pedal-pull time!
While the little ones pull and the crowd gathers near,
The classic-car faithful will have plenty to cheer.
Then 11:00 AM brings another big part β
Judging begins for the cars with the most heart.
And let's be honest, we know how it goes:
You can look at one classic⦠then somehow there's ten more.
One grille catches your eye, then a fender, then two,
And suddenly half the morning has disappeared on you.
You'll find cars with stories from decades gone by,
Paint shining brightly beneath the Oklahoma sky.
Some restored to perfection, some built with a flair,
And plenty that simply look right sitting there.
Then 12:00 noon arrives, and the bidding must cease,
The Silent Auction closes β no last-minute pleas!
But there's still more happening right at high noon,
So stick around downtown β you're not leaving too soon.
A vintage hand-painted gas can will be auctioned that day,
Painted and donated by Ben βDragDaddyβ Mitchell in his own special way.
And the best part of this particular sale?
It benefits The Journey Home, so your bids can prevail.
Then we'll pause for a moment, as proud as can be,
For the Presentation of the Flag and National Anthem we'll see. πΊπΈ
After that, there's still plenty of day left to roam,
So wander the streets before heading home.
Grab lunch or a snack, get yourself something cold,
And check out the vendors and stories they've told.
There'll be food, drinks and snacks in the park all day,
Vendors and door prizes along the way.
And if you want something to remember the scene,
Oldies βn Goodies T-shirts are $25 β and they're pretty darn keen.
At 1:00 PM, if you placed a bid with a chance,
The Silent Auction winners get their names announced.
Winners can pay and pick up their prize,
So keep one eye open when the winning names rise!
Then 2:30 PM comes rolling around,
When trophies and raffle winners will be found. π
We'll present the trophies, then draw two names,
And both raffle winners will leave with the fame.
And every raffle dollar β we're proud to say β
Goes to The Journey Home from the day. β€οΈ
So tomorrow, whether you're bringing a car
Or simply coming to see how beautiful they are,
Whether you're a lifelong classic-car fan
Or bringing the family because that's the plan,
Come walk through downtown. Come look at the chrome.
Come hear all the stories that old cars bring home.
Talk horsepower and engines, talk paint and design,
Or just find a shady spot and enjoy the sunshine.
And if you've been watching the forecast with care,
Wondering whether we'll still all be thereβ¦
You bet we will.
RAIN OR SHINE, the show goes on! π¦οΈπ
Because a little Oklahoma weather won't keep us away,
When 39 years of Oldies βn Goodies are waiting tomorrow to make a day.
So tonight, let the engines rest and the old classics sleep,
Let the car-show dreams settle in deep.
Tomorrow the streets of downtown Dewey will shine,
With American automotive history lined up in a line.
The headlights, the tailfins, the muscle and chrome,
The hot rods and classics that each have a home.
The cars that bring memories of days gone before,
And the ones that make you stop and say, βI've never seen one of those before!β
So set your alarm.
Polish your shoes.
Grab your family.
Bring your crew.
Come early for breakfast.
Come stay for the show.
Come bid at the auction.
Come watch the kids go.
Come see the cars.
Come support the cause.
Come celebrate 39 years of applause.
And if you're wondering which way you should goβ
There's only one answer we want you to know:
