The Exodus: From Escape to Freedom
As we continue our Route 66 message series—a journey tracing major themes woven through the sixty-six books of the Bible—we come to the powerful story of the Exodus.
God worked through Moses to lead the people of Israel out of forced labor in Egypt, but the journey was about more than escape. Exodus describes a road from fear to faith, both for Moses and for his people. Moses first had to return to the place of his fear before he could lead others toward freedom.
That story and others in the scriptures remind us that God still sees, hears, and cares for people who are burdened. And God also calls, sends, and leads those who are willing to be part of God’s freedom work in trust.
Freedom and escape are not always the same. We may leave a difficult place and still carry fear, bitterness, or doubt with us. True freedom comes as God leads us into deeper faith and teaches us to walk into the future one step at a time.
I urge you to spend some time between now and next Sunday (and even beyond) asking yourself questions like these:
• Where do I need freedom from fear right now?
• What has been my route from fear to faith?
• How is God calling me to help lead others?
• Who might be blessed because of the journey God has brought me through?
Leading people from fearful places to true freedom was the mission of Jesus’ ministry then, and it remains his mission now: to bring good news, release, healing, and hope.
After the amen, may we follow where God leads and become witnesses of freedom for others.
I hope to see you Sunday!
