It's that time again ...
The tradition began in 1962, but the idea came from a practical problem. City workers were trying to find illegal sewage dumping in the river. To track the leaks, plumbers used a bright green dye in the water system so they could see where the waste was entering the river

He swam thousands of miles for ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) and helped raise millions for research leading to The Cure. And when that cure is finally found—very likely at Chicago’s own Northwestern Medicine, Feinberg or the Ken & Ruth Davee Department (Feinberg/Insolia research programs)—it will be because of your donations, sparked by the inspiration of this tireless birthday guy.

Maddie (BHS Swim Team Freshman) stopped in with her dad, Peter K., last Saturday — and she only wanted to talk about one thing: the just-completed Chicago River Swim!

🌊 History Made on the Chicago River! 🌊
Last Sunday, Barrington’s own Doug McConnell and the A Long Swim Team made waves — literally. After nearly a decade of lobbying the City of Chicago, the U.S. Coast Guard, and countless other authorities, the Chicago River Swim returned for the first time in 98 years!
It was more than a race — it was a movement. Every stroke raised awareness and funds for ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), powered by donors who stepped up in a big way. Among them was State Senator Darby Hills. Though her schedule kept her from the riverfront, she stopped into Phillips to donate and snag a commemorative Chicago River Swim zippie.
💙 Zippies are available through October — every donation brings us closer to the cure. Get in the swim — the last donation that makes the difference might be yours!
