As the VYDC AmeriCorps member serving in the city of Winooski's Parks & Recreation Department, Miruna Muresan was instrumental throughout the summer in providing enriching camps for Winooski youth at no cost to their families. During the last week of August, Miruna devised activities and managed volunteers for a five-day "Junior Park Rangers" camp, where campers explored nature spots around Winooski, engaged in physical activities, and learned about the ecology of the town’s public parks. At the end of the week, campers took home tree identification booklets Miruna had created filled with leaf rubbings they collected.
Winooski is still looking for the next AmeriCorps member to serve with VYDC and continue programs like this one. If you or someone you know is interested in service, all of our positions are available to browse online, and we’re always here to answer any questions you have about AmeriCorps, Vermont, or what it means to serve with VYDC.
