The Renita Marshall Helping Hands Foundation

The Renita Marshall Helping Hands Foundation At that moment, the Renita Marshall Helping Hands Foundation unofficially started. But that has not been the ‘norm’.

The Renita Marshall Helping Hands Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Barre, Vermont dedicated to providing financial assistance to families with children facing temporary and unexpected financial hardships. The Renita Marshall Helping Hands Foundation mission is to provide financial assistance to families with children who are experiencing a temporary or unexpected financial hardship. In

2008(ish), while scrolling through Facebook, Renita Marshall (Founder & President) noted a neighbor had posted a note to her four daughters explaining how they didn’t need a tree or gifts to make Christmas, it was their love that made a holiday. Renita contacted friends and local business owners to provide a tree, gifts, food and gift cards to this local family. Such immense joy and appreciation came from not only the recipient but those who gave that the tradition has continued and grown each year since. To date, countless children have been provided a complete and full Christmas including a tree if necessary, gifts from their wish list, necessities such as winter items, beds, and shoes and even wrapping paper, tape and a few gifts for the parents who have sacrificed for their children. We have been able to provide back to school items, swim passes, swim lessons, summer camp fees, groceries and develop a scholarship in the name of Aiden James Shannon. Criteria was established: a family needed to have children in the home and needed to be experiencing a temporary and unexpected financial hardship. Nominations have poured in through the years and at times, we have been able to support more than one family. Until now....

In November of 2020, Renita reached out to a local accountant and friend to inquire about the process of incorporating as a non-profit organization. This friend filed all of the paperwork and paid the fees (our first donations) to jumpstart the business. MEET OUR BOARD

Renita Marshall - Founder & President - Renita is a Barre, Vermont native and the daughter of a single mother who worked tirelessly to provide all she could for her children. She has been involved in the coordination and planning of several local charity events in the area and is respected within the community for her work. Renita lives in Barre with her husband, Chris and has two adult sons who also live in Barre. Chris Marshall - Vice-President - Chris moved to Vermont in 2006 and met Renita. Through the years, Chris has been a silent partner in all of the community involvement and charity work and decided it was time to play an active role. Chris lives in Barre with his wife, Renita and has two adult sons, who also live in Barre. Kim Goodsell - Secretary - Kim relocated her family from Alabama to Vermont and knew she wanted to continue her volunteer services. After meeting Renita in an online “Vermonter” forum, they became fast friends and Kim could not wait to join this Foundation. Kim lives in Danville with her husband and two children. Zack Dion - Treasurer - Zack is the son of Chris & Renita Marshall and while participating behind the scenes for many years as his mom organized, he hadn't taken a proactive role....until now. Zack appreciates the importance of giving to his community and especially to children whose families are experiencing financial hardship. He is very excited about taking a more active approach. Zack lives in Barre with his fiancée and pup, Truly. Thank you for sharing this adventure with us. Member of The Barre Partnership & The Central Vermont Chamber of Commerce.

When we put out a call for help to ensure the Lisa Pariseau Donahue Scholarship could continue this year, we hoped for support.

What happened next was a powerful reminder of just how incredible this community is.

In less than 24 hours, you fully funded the scholarship.

Today, we mailed the check.

Because of your generosity, this scholarship will continue to honor Lisa’s legacy while supporting local students as they pursue their educational goals.

Thank you to every person who donated, shared the post, encouraged others, and believed in the importance of investing in our young people. Your kindness continues to create opportunities and change lives.

This is what community looks like.

While this is typically a quieter time of year for us, we still receive the occasional request for assistance. While our bylaws don’t allow us to help in every situation, this was one where we could step in.

This week, we were honored to provide brand-new bedding for two local children — construction vehicle-themed bedding for a six-year-old boy and princess bedding for a four-year-old girl.

Sometimes making a difference isn’t about grand gestures. Sometimes it’s helping a child crawl into a bed that feels special, comfortable, and truly theirs.

Thank you to everyone who supports the Renita Marshall Helping Hands Foundation. Because of you, we’re able to say “yes” when it matters.

Twenty years ago today, two crazy "kids" went on their first date. ❤️

Exactly one year later, they said "I do," and ever since, they've been building a life together filled with love, laughter, and purpose.

Today, they're working side by side to bring comfort, care, and support to local families and children during some of life's most difficult moments.

Twenty years later, the adventure continues.

Happy Anniversary, Chris Marshall & Marshall !

As I reflect on our journey as an organization, I never imagined we would be supported by businesses as iconic as Ben & Jerry's , Idletyme , and Lawson's Finest Liquids.

Almost every business we step into says, “When do you need us? Just call.”

We have had the privilege of working with small businesses, amazing nonprofit organizations, and countless car dealerships — all willing to step up and support our mission.

In a recent conversation, I said, “I can hustle to make things happen, but it would be nice if we had the financial cushion to not always have to do that.”

This June, you have TWO easy opportunities to support our mission:

Idletyme will share a portion of proceeds from their “Share Your Idletyme” campaign with our organization throughout the month of June.

From June 1–15, Lawson's Finest has selected us as their Sunshine Fund recipient, where guest donations will be donated directly to us.

We appreciate your support more than words can express, and we are deeply moved by the generosity of this community. Thank you for believing in what we do.

What a way to end the month!

Our fundraiser at Idletyme was so well received that we got an email from them asking if they could extend their fundraising efforts on our behalf through June!!! And they finished with, “Does that sound good to you?”

UMMMMMM… we immediately said, “OF COURSE!”

Stop into Idletyme during the month of June and you’ll see table cards with our information, plus two special menu items to choose from. Without any extra effort on your part, a portion of the sales at the end of the month comes directly to us.

We are beyond grateful for the continued support from Idletyme and this amazing community!

While we're away this week enjoying time with our family, we pause today to remember the brave men and women of the United States military who gave their lives in service to our country.

Memorial Day is more than the start of summer; it is a day of reflection, gratitude and honor for those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.
