CHANGE THE WAY YOU SEE

I don’t have crow’s feet,
I have happy happy memories of laughing with friends until the tears flowed.

I don’t have frown lines,
I have the marks of my frustration and confusion, which I battled through, smiling in the end.

I am not going grey,
I have shimmering highlights of wisdom, dashed throughout my silver hair.

I don’t have scars,
I have symbols of the strength I was able to find, when life got tough.

I don’t have stretch marks,
I have the marks of growth and the marks of motherhood. My womanly evolution.

I am not fat,
I bear the evidence of a life filled with abundance, blessings and good times.

I am not just forgetful,
I have a mind so full of stories, memories and moments there is scarce room to hold much else.

I am not old,
I am blessed, with a life of great length, something not everyone can say.

Don’t change the way you look my friend,
change the way you see,

change the way you see.

“ATTENTION.... Better Health & Wellness Fair

An “AWARENESS & Education FAIR” for Better Health & Wellness will be held at the Gail Reyes Senior Center in Barnwell on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 beginning at 9:00 am.

Health and human service agencies as well as civic, community and faith based organizations are welcomed to come out and inform and educate the community about their services for improved holistic health for all of Barnwell County. Special introductions to non-traditional healthcare services will be presented by Clemson Rural Health and SC House Calls.

We are Generations Unlimited with a focus on intergenerational healthy lifestyles. We are positioned to address the health needs (medically, socially, emotionally, mentally, physically, etc.) of a multigenerational society where the number of people living in multigenerational households quadrupled from 1971 to 2021. These are households where two or more adult generations (with adults mainly ages 25 and older) or a “skipped generation,” which consists of grandparents and their grandchildren younger than 25. Most consist of at least two adult generations – for example, young adults living with their parents, parents residing in their adult children’s homes, or a grandparent, adult child and adult grandchild under one roof. Reference extracted from Pew Research Center data.

Therefore, in developing a network of collaboration, you and your organization are extended this special opportunity to connect your participants and associates to benefit from the many services available to them. Additionally, you are encouraged to use this event to further reach and engage more participants for your program and services. We can provide transportation to the event as well. Please contact Mary Stroman at 803-259-4592 or me at 803-963-4720 for registering or more information.

On March 23rd, Generations Unlimited celebrated 23 years of the Gail Reyes Senior Center being open. We were joined by former staff & board members, Barnwell County Council Chair-Jerry Creech, Lt. Kirkland with Barnwell County Sheriff’s Department, Judith Richburg from LSCOG, our beloved volunteers and our beloved clients! We honored our founding Director, Gail Reyes who spoke about the challenges of getting the Senior Center funded and built. She expressed gratitude for the continued services that it provides to the citizens of Barnwell County. It was a day of reconnecting and reflection on how far we have come. Many challenges are before us but we will continue to fight through them to serve our Seasoned Seniors who served us first!
