Come see us this Saturday at the free summer 🎶concert, 6-8pm at the Barnstead Parade Grounds! 🎸🎤Visitors Band of NH will be playing and we will be selling 🍪🧃concessions, plants 🪴🪻and these beautiful plant stakes! Use them indoor or outside, when the sun hits them they throw prism rainbows all over! 🌈

TRIP REPORT: Heartwood Bonsai

The Garden Club visited Heartwood Bonsai in Strafford on Friday. Owner Steven Bachmann was kind enough to walk us through an introduction to Bonsai. Translated literally, Bonsai means "planted in a container." Steven had a variety of deciduous and evergreen examples. His property had over 100 trees in process. He explained how the refinements are made, steering the shape and size of the tree, using wire and tape, and the type of tools used in the process for cutting and pruning. Steven's enthusiasm and dedication to this art was evident, from the hand crafted pottery to the stories behind how he acquired some of his prized pieces. Garden Club outing: Friday, November 3rd the club will be visiting Steve Bachman’s to see and learn about his Bonsai creations. Our plan is to meet at library at 1:00 for a 1:15 arrival at Steve’s. He is on Province Road in Strafford (several miles past TL Storer). Hope you can join us!

WE COULD USE SOME HELP. If anyone has building skills and some boards or pallets laying around, the shrubs in front of the Parks & Rec garage could desperately use some snow protection in the coming months. Nothing fancy, just some simple a-frame structures to keep the snow from the roof off of them. Let us know if you are willing to help!
