Garden Club of Hyannis The Garden Club of Hyannis meets on the third Tuesday, September through June, at the West Barnstable Community Center, 2377 Meetinghouse Way.

We discuss horticulture, flower arranging, and conservation, and support civic projects and scholarships

What a spectacular showing the Garden Club of Hyannis had at the Southeastern district’s flower show, “Oceans Around Us”. Our members we’re awarded 8 blue ribbons, 4 red ribbons, 7 yellow ribbons, and 3 white ribbons! In addition the Bobbie Lingard award, the Laverne Collard award and the Botanical Arts Design were awarded to two of our members! What honors!!! In addition to all those honors, 6 of our members were instrumental in the production of the show! They were Sally Cameron, Dolores Ahern, Diane Cochran, Gail Hubacker, Betsy Brodd, and Dottie Palko. Each entry is given points by the judges according to various criteria and the points are totaled and ribbons awarded.
Kudos to all who participated and worked so hard to make it a success!!

What a great end of the year luncheon we had at The Old Yarmouth Inn! Not only was the company fun but the food and decorations were awesome! Our members made the centerpieces for every table at the design workshop and they were outstanding! It so nice to see new members (and seasoned ones) take advantage of the teaching talent in our club!!
We installed two new board members. They were Donna Garrabrant for vice president and Mel Morency as corresponding secretary. What a great group of ladies to take us into our 2026-2027 garden club year!
It was so special to see these two so deserving ladies, Lynette Helms and Joan Golden be presented with the Floribunda award for our club. This award is presented by the Southeast District of the Garden Club Federation for outstanding contributions to the club. Lynette is both the chairperson of our design committee and is one of the co-chairpersons of our 2027 Holiday Showcase! Joan is our treasurer and has had to transition all of our banking and financials to a new bank this year!! Congratulations ladies!!

WHAT A CLUB!!! Recently at the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts annual meeting, our garden club received two awards from the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts as well as a National Garden Club award!!
Congratulations to Elena Ahlin and Kathy Looney for receiving the Helen Friedberg Award and the National award for Container Gardening!! Gail Hubacker received the Cindora Goldberg Award for Assemblage Design Award and Lynette Helms received the Tri-Color Award as the star designer at the Southeast District Flower Show held at the Heritage Gardens!!

Not only did these talented ladies receive those awards, the GCFM Flower Show, held at the Heritage Gardens, won three Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts awards AND a National Award!!! The awards were: Margaret E. Marsh Achievement Award, The Arrangers of Marblehead Award for staging, the Ruth O. Wallace Schedule Award and the National Award for a Design Specialty Show. And who was the chair of this ‘Silver Anniversary Show’……..our own Dolores Ahern!!!

The Garden Club of Hyannis is proud to announce the outstanding Cape Cod students who received scholarships and the teacher and his student that received a mini grant.

Justin Solgovic from Cape Cod Technical High School, Olivia Arseneault from Falmouth High School, Allyson Webb from Upper Cape Cod Technical High School, Megan Garthee from Barnstable High School and Colin Gleason from Barnstable High School. Next are Mason Allison and Dr. Robert Albis from Barnstable High School, who received the mini teacher grant and Mr. Joe Katchpole who presents a scholarship each year in memory of his wife, Elizabeth, who was a wonderful member of the garden club who passed away!

WOW WHAT A MONTH OF MAY WE HAD!!!
A tea for new members, 2027 Holiday Showcase Meeting, presented scholarships to 5 deserving Cape Cod students, a teacher grant, and spruced up the Hyannis Public Library. Every spring at our May meeting our garden club presents scholarships to Cape Cod students, tool-ships to budding entrepreneurs who are pursuing a career in the fields of horticulture, agriculture, environmental, landscaping or an applicable field. Mini teacher grants, who have developed programs or will develop programs for their students, are also presented. These teacher programs should be in the areas of environmental fields of study which include horticulture, conservation, botany, forestry, landscape design or a related field. Not only did all this happen at our May meeting, but members displayed functional and exhibition table designs which were exquisite! Come join a fun and inspirational garden club!! See our website for more information!

The Garden Club of Hyannis hosted a delightful tea gathering at President Betty Logan's home to welcome new members. The occasion was filled with warmth and friendship. The new members will be a wonderful asset to our club. It was great to learn about their varied backgrounds and interests that drew them to our club.
