🚒 Monday Night Training

Tonight, members spent the evening putting water on the move while training at multiple locations throughout the Village of Barneveld.

Crews worked through realistic fireground scenarios that included establishing water supplies from hydrants, deploying and advancing hose lines to simulated fires, practicing advanced hose lays, and operating relay pumping systems.

Members also spent time behind the wheel of Engine 2 practicing pumping while rolling to better understand apparatus operations and and the use of the external turret that allows them to spray water from a moving truck.

Training in different neighborhoods and environments helps build muscle memory, improve communication, and prepare our members for the situations they’ll face when a real call comes in.

Every week, our members dedicate their time to becoming faster, safer, and more effective for the community we proudly serve.

Today marks the anniversary of the tornado that forever changed Barneveld and became one of the most significant weather disasters in Wisconsin history.

In the early morning hours of June 8, 1984, an F5 tornado struck the Village of Barneveld, leaving a path of destruction that changed our community forever. Nearly 90% of the village was destroyed, 93 homes were leveled, 17 of the village’s 18 businesses and public buildings were lost, and nine lives were tragically taken. More than 200 people were injured.

While we remember the destruction, we also remember something even stronger, the resilience of our community. Neighbors helped neighbors, firefighters and emergency responders worked tirelessly, and together Barneveld rebuilt. What stands here today is a testament to the strength, determination, and spirit of the people who call this community home.

As members of the Barneveld-Brigham Fire Department, we honor those who lost their lives, those who responded during the disaster, and everyone who helped rebuild in the days, months, and years that followed.

Please take a moment today to remember the victims, survivors, responders, and families whose lives were forever changed on June 8, 1984.

EMS Week shoutout to our friends at BARS 🚑

While most people are sleeping tight, BARS is out there all through the night. Chest pains, falls, bumps, and scares, They answer the call because they care.

They haul the cot, they drive code three, And somehow survive on gas station coffee. They calm the chaos, ease the panic too, Then restock the rig like it’s nothing new.

So here’s to the crew who answer the tones, Who help our neighbors on their worst unknowns.
