Friends of Brookville Fund Raiser
The Friends of Brookville will be offering a Home Firearm Safety Class with all of the proceeds going to the Friends of Brookville Charitable Organization. All participant materials and instructors are being donated. The course will be run April 11 beginning at 9AM. Registration is required – we have 25 student packets for this class. NRA Home Firearm Safety Course
This non-shooting course, intended for adults, teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and to explain the attitude necessary for the safe handling and storage of fi****ms and ammunition in the home. This is a four-hour course conducted in the classroom only. Participants are taught NRA’s three rules for safe gun handling; primary causes of fi****ms accidents; firearm parts; how to unload various fi****ms; cleaning; care; safe storage of fi****ms in the home; and the benefits of becoming an active participant in the shooting sports. Participants will, using actual fi****ms, have the ability to safely unload each of the following using dummy ammunition;
Rifles – Bolt Action, Lever Action, Semi-Auto
Shotguns – Pump Action, Break Action, Semi-Auto
Pistols – Single Action, Double Action revolvers, Semi-Auto
Muzzleloading Fi****ms for discussion only not for unloading in this class.

Participants will receive the NRA Home Firearm Safety handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Basic Firearm Training Program brochure, course completion certificate along with NRA Eddie Eagle Gun Safety materials for children.

We would request that if 2 adults in the same household want to come, only one register to receive the materials leaving room for more to participants. We are requesting a minimum donation of $40 to attend this class. You are free to donate more. Checks made out to Friends of Brookville or cash will be accepted the day of the class where your materials will be supplied.

Friends of Brookville
The purpose of Friends of Brookville (FOB) is to develop and implement lifelong relationships for our supporters and encourage their gifts of time, talent, and philanthropy to help Citta Scout Reservation.

FOB serves as a NJ (501(c)(3) registered charity for our supporters with various Scouting affiliations. Past Citta staff alumni, OA members, Woodbadgers, retired scouters, current scouters, Brookville staffers, and anyone interested in supporting Citta Scout Reservation. FOB also facilitates the sharing of memories of Scouting within our community through an annual reunion.

The cost of the class is a minimum donation of $40 to Friends of Brookville, larger donations are certainly welcome. This is meant for adults. Hey everyone,

Just as an update for everyone who has asked about camp and helping out if we needed to move anything. We were very fortunate that the wildfire that is still burning in our back yards shifted away from camp and we are out of danger. We didn't sustain any damage, aside from heavy smoke conditions. These situations are fluid and can change quickly so we'll let you know if anything changes, but for now, we're okay.

Thank you all for your well wishes, but please reach out to anyone else you know in the Barnegat/Waretown/Lacey area. This crisis is apparently still not over and they will at the very least need our prayers, or in some cases, our pickup trucks and strength of character to hold each other up and move to safety.

Thank you to all the brave fire fighters who are risking their lives to fight the fire. Our prayers go out to you in hopes that you soon can feel as safe at home with your families as you have helped us feel with ours.

The Citta Shooting Sports Committee is Looking for New Members

The Shooting Sports Committee for Jersey Shore Council is responsible for the maintenance and use of the shooting sports equipment and ranges here at Citta Scout Reservation. Each member is also a certified instructor in some of all of the shooting sports disciplines in use at camp. The BSA requires NRA Instructor certifications to run firearm ranges and USA Archery Level 1 Instructor certifications to run archery. There is a separate BSA Cub BB and Archery Range Master Certification but this is only good for Cub Scout shooting and of course everyone must be current with their BSA Youth Protection Training.

We are always looking to increase the membership in our committee and year-round range staff.

 Are you current or former military or law enforcement?
 Are you a hunter or target shooter with either fi****ms or archery experience?
 Do you already hold any NRA or USA Archery Instructor Certifications?
 Would you like to be a Merit Badge Counselor for rifle, shotgun or archery? Instructor level certification is required for those positions.
 Would you like to help the Scouts of Jersey Shore and visiting Councils in the safe use of fi****ms and archery equipment?

If you answered yes to any of these questions we’d like to hear from you. We run a year-round program outside of summer camp for units requesting shooting sports.. We host NRA and USA Archery training classes as needed. These are instructor level training classes; this is not for beginners. You should already be knowledgeable with and comfortable around fi****ms and/or compound or recurve bows.

We currently have a Rifle Instructor Class set for mid December and a USA Archery Level 1 Instructor class forming.

We haven't posted anything in a while but we are celebrating an anniversary so I figured this was as good a time as any. This week we are celebrating the second anniversary of the opening of our 3D Archery Trail at Citta Scout Reservation. This has been a huge hit with Scouts as an alternative to shooting at the 10-ring targets when they aren’t working towards the archery merit badge. If you haven’t been to Citta in a few years, you are missing out on a great time. We are also now offering Recurve Bows in addition to the Genesis Universal Compound Bows.
Besides the 3D Trail for Scouts BSA, Venturing and Sea Scouts, we also have perhaps the best Cowboy Action Range in the area, along with rifle, shotgun, regular archery and tomahawk. For the Cubs there are the traditional BB, archery and wrist rockets.
Perhaps put Citta back on your monthly camping rotation and your summer camp rotation.

Cub Scout 2019 Summer Camp opportunities -

I'm pleased to announce that we have completed the building of the new Cowboy Action range at Citta. We will be working out the kinks while running it 2 nights each week during sumnmer camp, initially just the leaders, We will offer it in the fall as another option for Troops and Crews just as we do for rifle, shotgun, and archery today.

This is the town of Dead Horse. Population 1 dead horse.

Cowboy action is available to Scouts 14 and over. Sorry younger Scouts.

The participants will shoot the following sequence:
Position 1: Lever action rifle - 6 shots
Position 2: Single action revolver - 6 shots
Position 3: Single action revolver - 6 shots
Position 4: Stage coach dbl. barrel shotgun - 2 shots

Targets are steel plate racks of 6 for rifle and pistols. For the shotgun the first shot will be to hit a popper which if hit properly will fall and release a clay target in the air for the second shot.

If anyone has any western decor they'd like to donate or anyone who might know someone who has decor please let us know. It would be nice to put a saddle and harness on Trigger, our mascot. Oak barrels will also be added soon.

Over the summer, we will also be adding the town jail. Some might call it a shed but it will be built to look like a jail.
