Today, we placed 12 keys into 12 hands, opening the doors to 12 new homes and 12 new beginnings. There were tears of joy, laughter echoing through empty rooms soon to be filled with memories, and hearts overflowing with hope and love.

These 12 keys are a glimpse of the world we dream of creating—a world where opportunity is not reserved for a few, and where affordable housing truly means what those words promise: a safe, welcoming place to call home.

Today, dreams unlocked doors. Tomorrow, families will build their futures inside them.

The heat index is going to reach unhealthy levels in Buncombe County through the weekend, with some days experiencing a heat index of 91 degrees. The heat index includes temperature and humidity.

91 degrees may not seem high for some, but in early June in Western North Carolina, our bodies are not yet acclimated to heat.

Remember to protect yourself! Stay cool and drink plenty of water.

High heat can be dangerous for older adults, people with disabilities, outdoor workers, children, those without air conditioning, pregnant people, people who take certain medications (heart and blood pressure drugs, antidepressants and antipsychotics, antihistamines, stimulants, overactive bladder medication, and diabetes and weight loss drugs), and pets.

Summer may be here, but the need for assistance never slows down. ☀️

For many families across Western North Carolina, summer can bring added challenges like higher utility bills, childcare expenses, and food insecurity while school is out.

Eblen Charities is committed to helping families navigate difficult seasons with practical, immediate support when they need it most. 💙

The Atlantic hurricane season has begun and runs through Nov. 30. We've seen storms forming earlier in recent years, so now is the time to make sure you're prepared.

If you're in a hurricane-prone area:

1) Build an emergency kit that contains water, nonperishable food, medications and important documents. Don't forget supplies for pets, like a leash and carrier.
2) Identify your evacuation routes now before you need them.
3) Secure outdoor items and make a family communication plan so everyone knows what to do if severe weather strikes.

A few simple steps today can keep you and your loved ones safer when storms develop.
