Nelson County Conservation District The Nelson County Conservation District was founded in 1946 to protect, enhance and educate the public about the natural resources of our county.

The Conservation District was founded in 1946 after the Dust Bowl to educate the public about the importance of our natural resources and soil conservation. The District is governed by a 7 member Board of Supervisors that are elected by voters within Nelson County. We also partner with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, Farm Service Agency and Kentucky Fish and Wildlife to help carry out our conservation programs.

All in for Ag Education Week is coming up VERY SOON & we hope you will spend Monday, September 21st with us for a Virtual Field Trip! Through this experience, your students will get to:

⭐️ Participate in a LIVE virtual field trip at Meade Tractor, hosted by Commissioner Shell!
⭐️ Learn about equipment safety, with opportunity to ask live questions via chat.
⭐️ Submit questions ahead of time to be answered during the field trip.
⭐️ Participate in the Ask an Aggie Panel, featuring Commissioner Jonathan Shell, Commissioner Fletcher & other featured guests!

We look forward to bringing this experience to life to support Kentucky’s All in for Ag Education Week!

The Nelson County Conservation District would like to invite all Nelson County students in grades 1–12 to participate in the 2026 Conservation Writing andJim Claypool Art Contests! ✏️🎨

This year’s theme is “Ground Rules: The Story Beneath Your Feet.”

Soil is much more than just dirt, it is the foundation of life beneath our feet. Healthy soil grows our food, filters and stores water, provides a home for countless living organisms, supports plants and wildlife, and helps keep our land productive for future generations.

We encourage students to explore the importance of the ground beneath our feet and share what conservation means to them through art or writing.

Help us inspire the next generation to understand, appreciate, and protect one of our most valuable natural resources, OUR SOIL!
