· My New Kentucky Home Habitat For Humanity is an affiliate of Habitat International.
· We serve Marion, Nelson and Washington Counties.

· We work to build one home in one county a year.

· The home build requires a lead contractor (compensated) to organize the efforts.

· The homes are not free. Each home carries a ZERO interest Mortgage (the cost to build the home), plus escrow for insurance and taxes. The mortgage term can be 20, 25 or 30 years (as fits the family’s needs).

· The Marion County home build in Lebanon is almost done.

· Washington County is the location of our next home build. The family selection process has been completed and the ground breaking will occur in early 2023. Once this home is built, we will move on to Nelson County.

Ø Basic Eligibility to apply: (in the specific county’s family selection process)

1. Have the need for a home

2. Have the ability to pay the mortgage

3. Willing to partner with us (sweat equity hours)

4. Have lived in the county being served for one year prior to applying.

About Us

In 1988 four religious communities –Lauretine Sisters, St. Catherine Dominicans, Sisters of Charity Nazareth and Gethsemane Trappist Monks began discussing the need for housing among Marion, Nelson and Washington counties. The developed a broad base of supporters interested in this project. Business men, civic groups, church groups and clergies were included in the supporters. A survey was conducted on the needs of the three counties which were followed by several hearings to inform the public. From these efforts a steering committee was formed to begin the process of creating a board. The final name for the board was not quickly accepted because of a lack of geographical identity. The Monks at Gethsemane donated $5,000 to the board seed money. The first board of directors meeting occurred on February 12, 1990.

The first project in 1991 was a room addition in New Hope because there was not enough money for a home build. Since then we have been building houses in the three counties resulting in 26 houses completed. We rotate the builds between the counties.
