At Appalachian Children’s Home, we believe it is important to celebrate the hard work, growth, and positive choices our youth make each day. In May, our Students of the Month were recognized for their dedication, attitude, and continued progress both academically and personally.
As part of their celebration, the students enjoyed a special lunch off campus with ACH President Mike Addison. The outing provided an opportunity to not only recognize their accomplishments, but also spend meaningful time together outside of the normal daily routine.
Moments like these remind our youth that their efforts are noticed and valued. Whether it is demonstrating leadership, showing kindness to others, improving academically, or making positive decisions, these students have worked hard to earn this recognition.
We are proud of each of our Students of the Month and grateful for staff and leaders like Mike Addison who continue investing in the lives of the youth we serve. Congratulations to our May honorees; we cannot wait to see all they continue to accomplish!

Finding Peace in the Barn

Sometimes the quietest places can have the biggest impact. This month, youth spent time in the barn cleaning stalls, caring for the horses, and helping maintain the equine area at Appalachian Children’s Home.

While the work may seem simple, these moments help teach responsibility, patience, and the importance of caring for something beyond themselves. The barn has become a place where youth can slow down, focus, and experience a sense of calm away from everyday stress.

Through our equine-assisted psychotherapy program, youth are learning that growth often happens through consistency, trust, and meaningful connection; one task, one lesson, and one horse at a time.

Graduating Milestone Worth Celebrating

This spring, Appalachian Children’s Home proudly celebrated two very special milestones as two of our youth graduated from Knox Appalachian School. Graduation represents far more than earning a diploma; it reflects perseverance, growth, determination, and the courage to keep moving forward despite life’s challenges.
We are also excited to share that both graduates have been accepted into Bluegrass Community & Technical College for the Fall 2026 semester. This next step marks an exciting new chapter filled with opportunity, continued learning, and hope for the future.
At ACH, we know that many of the youth we serve have overcome obstacles that most people never see. Watching these young men walk across the stage was a powerful reminder of why our mission matters. Each late-night homework session, every encouraging conversation, and the support of caring staff, mentors, teachers, foster families, and community partners helped make this achievement possible.
Graduation is not the end of their journey; it is the beginning of a new chapter filled with purpose and possibility. As they prepare for college and adulthood, they carry with them the lessons, relationships, and encouragement built along the way.
We are incredibly proud of both graduates and excited to see where life leads them next. Please join us in celebrating their hard work and bright futures ahead!

Mother’s Day was filled with meaningful moments at Appalachian Children’s Home as several of our youth prepared for special visits with their mothers. Before spending time together, the youth gathered to create handmade gifts and cards; each one was thoughtfully designed with love, creativity, and care.
Around the table were markers, stickers, paper, and plenty of smiles as the youth worked hard to make something personal for the important women in their lives. While the gifts themselves were special, the time and effort behind them made them even more meaningful.
At ACH, we understand how important family connections are. Opportunities like these help create moments of joy, strengthen relationships, and remind our youth that even small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact.
Mother’s Day looked a little different for everyone, but one thing was clear: these gifts were made straight from the heart.

Passing the Torch: Next Generation
"One generation shall praise Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts." — Psalm 145:4 (NASB 2020)

June is one of my favorite months of the year. As summer begins, we are reminded that ministry is not just about where we are today; it is about who we are raising up for tomorrow. Across Appalachia and beyond, God is calling a new generation of young people to know Him, serve Him, and carry the Gospel into the future.

This month, our fellowship will gather for the Connect Conference and Youth Camp. These events are much more than dates on a calendar. They are opportunities for students to encounter the presence of God, discover their calling, build lifelong friendships, and make decisions that can shape the course of their lives forever. Many pastors, missionaries, evangelists, and church leaders can trace their calling back to a youth camp altar, a worship service, or a moment when God spoke clearly to their hearts.

The future of the Church is not something we simply wait for; it is something we intentionally build. Every prayer offered, every child encouraged, every lesson taught, and every investment made in a young person's life helps shape the next generation of Kingdom leaders.

Thank you for standing with Appalachian Children's Home as we continue our mission of caring for children, strengthening families, and pointing young people toward the hope found in Jesus Christ.

Together, we are helping raise up a generation that will make a difference for the Kingdom.

Life Skills in Action
Caring for Horses, Building Character

This month, youth helped groom horses, clean stalls, and maintain the grounds of our equine program. They also enjoyed learning about the horses from Mr. Yeary, gaining knowledge, confidence, and a deeper appreciation for the care these animals require.
These responsibilities are about much more than chores. They teach accountability, consistency, teamwork, and pride in caring for something greater than themselves. For many youth, time spent around horses also provides a unique sense of calm and connection.
Through hands-on experiences like these, youth build confidence while developing valuable life skills that will serve them well into the future. Every brushed coat, cleaned stall, and shared lesson becomes an opportunity for growth.
